(random thoughts: Only second theme is logic, but whatever)

1. furby killing godzilla

2. god and devil

3. badgerX10

HANDICAP: the game must include photo of mike on the compiler of jamsville

Well, dadio, now that this theme letter has been revealed, the middle word becomes pretty obvious.

The second theme is POP ART PIXEL, isn't it?

I think I might join this year :) And I might give out prizes!!!

Alright so, to the first ten places you have the choice of one of the following:

1. A copy of my mixtape as soon as I finish it (I plan to release it by March)

2. What I have of my mixtape as soon as places are announced

3. Slime (slightly remastered)

4. Bunaria as it is by then (I'll try and make it less buggy)

5. I make you an NPC in Bunaria

6. You get to make an item for Bunaria

The 3 Themes will be (fully) revealed at maybe 22:00 Wednesday 20th tbh...

tho I suspect we will have already revealed 1 or 2 before then through guessing...

Then you will have ~24 hours to get your votes in for the one you like best.

The final Theme will be announced around 23:00 Thursday 21st.

:)

The Jam will officially start at 23:59 Thursday 21st.

By "the final theme will be announced" etc. you mean that the theme that Jammers chose will be announced, right?

For a moment there I couldn't quite get that all 3 themes would be revealed on Wednesday, 2 themes would be revealed/guessed before the third and yet the final theme would be announced (revealed?) an hour before Jam would start. ^^"

Is there any way we could make voting in the poll anonymous, so that nobody can tally the votes and find out the theme before hand?

I guess the easiest setup would be to PM dadio or another Jam organiser with theme votes. It should be told beforehand to whom the votes should be sent, assuming we go that route.

Alternately, I might setup a site for voting and a tiny little bit complicated protocol to ensure that votes on external site correspond to votes of users here. In practice, instead of sending "I like theme X" somewhere here, you send "I'm USER and I like theme X" to the site, then receive some unique voting code from that site, then paste that code somewhere in this topic (thus confirming you're the USER).
I can technically do that, but that would likely end up with more hassle on Jammers' end. As a plus, the site would immediately show the results when they're due, having scraped Jam topic for voting codes beforehand (while people may be a bit less reliable). That's an option, too, but I think it might be waaay overcomplicated compared to PM route (if we want to keep votes secret).

-----

While we're at that, what sort of voting system we choose? :P
Seriously, though, there are two options that I find to make the most sense:
- single-theme choice - Jammer picks their most favourite theme; the theme with most votes wins
- multiple-theme choice - Jammer picks one or more preferred themes (in practice, one or two) in no particular order, giving each of them a "yay"; the theme with most "yays" wins

The first system is marginally simpler (though votes from first system are compatible with the second system).
The second system might allow choosing theme that actually works for more Jammers.

For example, in the first system the voting between Left/Middle/Right theme might yield result 45% Left, 20% Middle, 35% Right. So it appears the Left works best, but still less than the half Jammers are happy with it.
In the second system it might turn out the preferences are like 10% Left only, 35% Left or Middle, 20% Middle only, 25% Right or Middle, 10% Right only. So Left gets 45% yays, Middle gets 80% yays and right gets 35% yays. In the end, a Middle theme is chosen, as preferred by 80% of people.

I had thought that it was simplest to just PM me your votes...

minimal effort

I had also thought that just 1 Theme vote per person, but if you'd prefer to put the 3 in order of preference?

I'd just go with the following voting since this is just short and sweet.
  • All votes are Pm'd to dadio (or other trusted member)
  • Each user can vote on either 1 or 2 themes (voting for 0 or 3 is functionally equivalent of not voting at all and expressing "I don't care")
  • Most votes is the "most ok" theme and is chosen.
simple and elegant and little room for bickering.

Is the second choice RIP AND TEAR?

Nevermind, TEAR isn't 5 words! XD

So, TearE then.

But three letter words starting with A aren't common right? =P

So: Theme two would have to be:

---- AND ----- ,

Kick --- Games ,

Or...

Find All -----.

I support the 1 or 2 theme choosing, ordering them by preference would just be too much of a hassle for both voters and the person who has to tally the votes.

Also, themes:

1. MAGES AGAINST WARRIORS

2. GET ALL STUFF

3. FANTASTIC

I guess that could be, if the questionmark counted as a blank too, that is.

Also, mr magnus, I think you meant to post that video instead. ;)

barricade
carnivore

carnivals
garrisons
happiness
machinery
magnified
manliness

marriages
particles
partition
patriotic
sacrifice
vampirism

And some guesses for theme 2

Alright, if need be, I'm for the quicker Jam.

The voting will need to be carried over externally, though. Technically, it should be fine to just post the votes after the forum upgrade, but then the feedback loop would be broken. I might setup some temporary site for that (though it'll come with a bit of initial overhead, as I'll need to program the votes posting thing), unless someone else comes up with an easier and/or better solution.

If we're desperate we could use some online platform for it: I'm sure there is some website that can do what we want; Problem being that either we'd invite all who want to vote (hassle) or trust the community.

If you want or need help I can chip in.

.
But otherwise I honestly think the overhead isn't going to be much of an issue; nearly nobody votes in the first days, most votes come a week+ into the process.

The main issue is that if you're setting up a site you need to have a link you can distribute before the lockdown. Once the Gmc closes we won't be able to actually communicate with most other members directly (Right?). I for instance think there are 2 members on the entire forum that know or knew my skype handle, I never use twitter, and most other contact forms would have to be dug up PI style. Telling users like me where to vote is going to be a very lengthy and annoying process.
