Strongly considering to demake Springy-san now. We'll see though, I've been bombarded by school assignments lately.

 

EDIT: Also, if, say.. I make a vector graphic but with retro palette (GB's 4 palette or something), does it count as "retro"?

I challenge someone to make their game LCD style (like a Game and Watch game for example: https://youtu.be/tLq9n_JOMko?t=2m). Sounds easy, right? Maybe so, until you realize I expect all who accept the challenge to make the game just as great as all the other games in the competition.

Actual Jam / Game Creation occurs September 12th - 14th for 72 hours

For some reason I thought this was the week after that. Unfortunately, I'll be preoccupied that weekend. People can still feel free to remake my games if they please, but I can't participate :(

Line-based vector graphics are older than the rasterized sprite. E.g. Spacewar was completely vector graphics. So if you make lines in ONE color, you'll be fine. :3 (It must be one color because those graphics were done by screens covered on the inside with fluorescent substance, usually phosphoric, and thus ANY light hitting it would cause it to glow in the same color)

 

TL;DR yes.

I was actually referring to flat, modern design vector, not "vector" as in line-based glowing sprites, like this:

I created my very own font in preparation of the upcoming jam. Any thoughts?

 

EDIT: 400th post! I have made 400 official posts here and I still haven't finished creating a single game. ...completed a game to the point of feeling satisfied with it. Technically, I have finished making a few incomplete games.

Well, that depends on what (kind of) game are you demaking. For a serif font like that, I think the best fit is Yal's retro-platformer games. It still looks nice though, the color and the style gives off a nice ancient ruins-esque feeling.

Remember, you can still demake the games of people who aren't on that list, but you should PM them first to get their permission (Who knows, if they haven't noticed this thread yet they may join themselves or put their name on the demake list anyway!)

It's decided, I'm going to demake Dadio's Springy-san, with a slightly modified GB pallete.

Over my dead body. I might have a slight fever, but that won't stop me from making a game with two blank rooms!

 

(not sure what use the second room would be if the first is empty, but whatever)

 

Seriously though, I have no idea what game to demake, or how much energy I'll have. Would it be considered self-centred to demake one of your own games? :P I kinda want to do To the Wardrobe, because it's the only one of my game I felt got a worse placing than it deserved, so it'd be fun to give it a second chance (plus all my other good games are already super-lowres) But I don't think anyone remembers it, and it's funnier to demake a well-known jam game.

 

EDIT: Were there even physics games back in the days when retro games weren't retro yet?

 

Oh, and anyone can demake my games, too. Not that I think anyone will, but still :)

De-making one of your own games was the original idea, I think.

 

 

On that note, I've decided to demake "Attack of the Flying Saucers from Outer Space".  I have a few ideas, and with it being a demake, I think I can handle coding the thing by myself if I simplify the snot out of it.  It's just a matter of if I have time to do it.  I guess we'll see....

I wanna join, at least for a small game, but my original idea "race friends 2d" seems too technically difficult for me to finish in the time I have, and my satirical idea "Carmageddon 2d" doesn't have permission on it. :/

Problem is that a lot of my personal favorite jam games (Outlander springs to mind) are already fairly low res and simple.

I'll not have enough time to demake YLOYPP, so I will pick Chicken And Moles by GameDevDan instead. I studied YLOYPP so deeply that I know n ^ $1337 (?) was used for encryption of real numbers while saving data into the text file, but... I won't have the time, so I'll have to drop the idea.
