Many people who use GameMaker: Studio to make mobile games start out with the Android module due to it's accessibility and ease of use. Basically if it works on Windows, it'll work on Android (with a minimum of tweaking), and when it comes to publishing, that too is also made extremely easy, since you just have to create an APK and upload it to Google Play.

However, the Google Play market is an extremely saturated one, has little or no controls over quality, and it doesn't cover a very large number of countries. Do you want people in China to play your game? Well, they can't because Google Play doesn't sell there, which means you are missing out on literally millions of potential users! The good news is that the Google Play market is not the only one available to you and in this article I'm going to list some of the other markets that are available to you for your Android games, as well as some of the pros and cons of going elsewhere.

I do not think China wants to pay for my game.

Interesting to know all game publishing websites. Not just for android but for other platforms to.

When it comes to places like China,  app.xiaomi.com & zhushou.360.cn are two stores I'd recommend.
360 is a very popular antivirus company, when you install their security app you also get their appstore.
Xiaomi's appstore comes with any phone running the MIUI rom, as well as available separately

Useful.  I would have to ask my mom to upload there  . There might be more countries I believe worldwide where Google Play is banned. If there are alternative upload sites for those countries we could upload there. Those who know should post the websites.

It could be that more anti western culture countries have banned google play http://www.alternate...=1&d=1249573043

Some anti semantic countries should have banned google to  http://i.dailymail.c...482_634x444.jpg

Definitely  some countries where is dead penalty for same gender or underage porn google is banned  https://www.washingt...iage-2-copy.jpg

Mate, there's hardly any profitable life in Google Play. There better be some elsewhere.

It's kind of ironic how a YoYo staff member would consider "missing out on literally millions of potential users" in China as woeful, while the current iteration of GMS has serious and well-recognized problems with handling CJK input and rendering.

There's more tape than the red kind for YoYo to cut through before GMS and GMS-made games can reach China for real.

Recently discovered on googling my own games for a bit of fun that it had a few hits in China without me doing anything other than uploading an apk to the gplay store! I had no clue prior to that but it was quite exciting, coolapk is the name of the site. Looks like it just trolls the google play store for apps and adds it to its own websites for people in china to play.

Good article too nocturne

They might use Tizen as well, but AFAIK they certainly don't use iPhones. (Except for the very rich people that want to brag about their exclusive tastes, but given that almost half of Sweden's population thinks they're too expensive, I'm pretty sure China has an even lower Apple user percentage)

Surprisingly, iPhone sales in China (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) surpassed US sales this year.  Here's a couple of news articles worth reading. 1 2

Given the large size of China's middle-class urban population, that market is enormous.  Even for relatively expensive items.

I see... apparently I've overestimated the size of the Swedish middle class :P

It's surprising, isn't it?  I was certainly surprised by that market.    I guess my vision of China was several years behind.   Things are changing very quickly there, especially in the big cities.  And I think lots of westerners still don't really know much about the Chinese middle class.

Hans Rosling certainly has a point, that's for sure. :P

I'm aware there is a Chinese middle class, but I've heard things like regarding Ikea as an expensive quality brand (which is quite the opposite of how it's regarded here in its native country)... I guess my source on this matter was also prejudicial.

I do not think China wants to pay for my game.

I didn't think China would want to watch my gaming videos yet they do, so I'm going to be optimistic and say they would play my games as well.

Does Brazil get Google Play? The gaming scene there is huge.

Two and a half years of game development taught me the joy of making something unique and unconventional. It is not good enough to make a game fun when there are way too many other freeware games that make fun their selling point.

China just lifted the ban on Gaming Consoles, do you think this may open up Google Play in the future?

Perhaps, but google and china have never been on great terms at the best of times

Plus many prefer to use local services, as many of the foreign services fail to cater for their needs properly.

Also in  reply to the iphone thing above;

The Chinese middle class is generally able to afford more additional things than most western countries, due to their low living costs (though there is a increase at the moment)

Food and accommodation are far more affordable, and limits on internet, phones (the amount of data you get, calls etc) are practically non-existent.

Also, a lot of the young generation is a bit apple mad at the moment. Before they could sell in the mainland, there was a huge amount of travel and export of iphones from hongkong, when apple came to the mainland, it was like opening the flood gates on a dam.

But there is still a huge proportion of android users, as the phones are much cheaper :)

Might be a little late, but I thought I might throw this here as well:

https://cafebazaar.ir/developers/?l=en

It's an alternative app store in Iran. Since access to Google Play is very limited, most users have Bazaar installed. There are already some foreign developers that have released their game there as well.
