This weeks tech blog continues on in the spirit of the previous ones that Mike Dailly has written, only instead of taking a look at the development of an emulator, we're going to be taking a look at creating an actual game from start to finish. The game in question is one that I have been wanting to make for quite some time and is actually a return to my roots using GameMaker...

The Big Idea
The idea for my game comes straight from my youth - Gauntlet and Gauntlet II......

Great read!

I suffer from both coding too early and feature creep. And that is a sure fire way to never completing that 'big' project.

"Game Dev Diary"

Wasn't Noc against dev logs? :P

Anyway, I'm glad we seem to be taking yet another step towards creating a more professional community of programmers by making such resources available to everyone. I'm sure everyone here can learn a thing or two from such articles, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of these in the future.

Given this, I'm sure it won't be long until a dev log forum pops up.

Tomorrow, right? :woot:

This is excellent. Reading about what keeps programmers motivated to chug along after months/years of work always has some nuggets of wisdom for me.

Thanks for the blog. I'll look forward to next week's.

Awesome. I have been toying around with procedural room generation, so I am going to be very interested in seeing where this goes. :)

Just wanted to add that the visualized representation of how you explained Binary Trees was spot on. Great job!
