Apparently it's a letter of the theme. And the beginnening. And for whatever reason the first element in each row is a complete square, followed by all possible squares with a corner cut (4 total), followed by all possible squares with two corners cut (6 total).

And for some reason people assumed it means that it has something to do with number three, or something; don't really know why that in particular. *shrugs*

Amazing to think the Jams have been going for 4 years now- I can hardly believe I've managed to enter 11 of the 16 so far! I hope to be able to enter this one too, but something may come up that weekend which may well stifle that plan- fingers crossed I'll be able to though.

Oh dear, cryptic crosswords. It seems the thing from before wasn't a letter clue by itself, but some sort of 55-letters or such riddle; not that it might not reveal only the first letter, still. Also, it seems that in the crossword there are 7 letters for each word, and some correspond to the clue thing. 8 is shown in a diamond shape that's not to be seen in the rainbow table (are we decrypting a hash, or what? And how come I've missed that pun for so long?); perhaps it's the number of letters total?

Anyway, I don't really feel like doing cryptic crosswords at the moment, given how little time I recently have in general, not to mention it might very well rely on play on words I don't know. Still, I'm pretty sure the 1st word is NOCTERN. I mean, if we want to do a clean-up, then removing a rogue AI (from contAIner) is a way to go; perhaps that AI was called "Steps". Then, if we take a look at CONTNER written backwards, it turns into RENTNOC which, after enough drinks (sometimes one needs to get into riddle's author state of mind) looks close enough to NOCTERN.

...what do you mean it's not that? >.<

perhaps that AI was called "Steps".


Steps were a pop group from the 90's who had a member known as "H". Surely this isn't a coincidence in this clue? Saying that, I don't feel any closer to solving the clue, let alone all 8!

This round of the Jam lands the first weekend after classes start, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Sitting at my computer for the entire 24th January while smearing cream from a strawberry cake on the keyboard and risk typing a colon instead of a semicolon (good coding practice will be my downfall) when opening gifts with my teeth is going to be an excellent way to celebrate my 15th birthday.

 

Let's see if I can manage to make a game which not everyone complains have weird physics this time. Guess I'd better avoid platformers.

Hmm, it all seems to be 90s references.

 

1. Others suggest this is a reference to the band "Steps", and that seems like a good assumption.

2. No idea about this one.

3. Seems to be a reference to the James Bond movie "GoldenEye" (or possibly the game GoldenEye 007).

4. Likely a reference to Earthbound. Don't know much about that game though.

5. No idea here, but there is a seabird called a "kraven"

6. Don't know about this one either.

7. Zoe is a character from the soap opera "Coronation Street" who first appeared in 1997. Can't figure out much else though.

8. No idea how X-Men and singer Matthew Bellamy go together.

(Don't mind me, just thinking aloud)

Diamond in GC,EA is a possible reference to the diamond around 8 in the previous clue. Wouldn't it be nice if "8 bemuses" quite literally meant that clue 8 in the crossword-ish thing was "bemuses", which fits with the "bewilder" theme of the clue. But that seems almost too easy since he gave it to us.

The clues do seem to be linked. The numbers in GC,EA and Cryptic are written in the same font with the same color scheme, making it seem as though they are linked, and the "missing corners" idea seems to pervade all of the clues thus far. "Bemuses" fits in 8 in the crossword as well as downward on the diamond in GC,EA. I can't make sense of any of the crossword clues (too young, probably), so I'll just have to rely on context from the other clues.

It seems like once we solve all the other clues, the first clue will translate to a bunch of letters. I'm seeing a big vertical puzzle. Choose a letter from each column and attempt to spell a word in order. But that won't happen till the end.

GC,EA, the title, bothers me a bit. A, C, E, and G are the first four "odd" letters of the alphabet (if you skip over every other letter). So... 73,51... or maybe 42,31... A pair of numbers referencing more results from the crossword. Possibly coordinates of some kind, or maybe specific words and we're supposed to take the letters they have in common... or maybe I just need sleep.

More than likely that last one is accurate. I think I'll be going to bed now.

Probably will participate this time, seeing there's not much pressure this time around and no Global Game Jam in our city.  :mellow:

That's entirely the point. Which one are you even playing? I don't think I've seen a Pokemon game so... 3D and numerous. Then again, I stopped watching the Pokemon series a long time ago.

Matching the numbers to the pokemon gives us:

I'd say that NAL has put in too many symbols to represent Golett and Baltoy.  <_<

 

EDIT: GC'EA == gotta catch 'em all  :rolleyes:

EDIT 2: I'd hazard a guess that "Bemuses" is 8-down on the previous puzzle too. I'll let you all figure out some stuff by yourselves now.

Eh, yes, I couldn't guess the Link Panther. I mean, I figured as much that you need to make a Zelda clone with panther protagonist, then copy the crossword layout, then slash the symbols thing so that proper letters will appear. However, I don't know how to make Zelda clone, neither I have time to learn that.

1 - couldn't guess; the arrow seems to point to beard/nose/mouth/moustache (?) area, depending on how exact we assume the arrow to be. However, neither has six letters
2 - FLANDERS
3 - couldn't guess
4 - EAGLE
5 - QUEEN

This at first seemed like two pokemon linked together for every word, but after exhausting pokemon fusion and the names of pokemon, this is as far as I could go without either having more than one possible answer for the word or no possible fusion between two pokemon could create a word that fits:

Alright, I think we finally got some breakthrough in the CRYPTIC crossword!

4: Adversary = archnemesis (NEMESIS on an arch, contains "ME" and "I" and the rest is "NESS")

Which makes the R9 letter "E".

Also, @TeamSteeve: I think you might be onto something (words "LINKED" together, though not necessarily Pokemon; that remark was aimed at GC'EA, I suppose), though there seem to be quite a few combinations of those... >.<

It's these new incredibly-cryptic clues. It's much more difficult to come up with theme possibilities when we don't even know how many letters it is. These clues are fun, but they go right over most people's head, while with the old ones all you need is a simple crossword solver and you have hundreds of possibilities to discuss.

Second RekNepZ. People just don't care when they have to give the slightest poop. Myself included. I never done any guessing anyway, but it was fun to see people's silly suggestions, these cryptic things is just looking at a couple of people talk among themselves, which to those just browsing looks like poke'nonsense, so they/we/I just leave.

 

But I don't think the Handicap is in the poke-nonsense so here:

Well, I'm trying to keep up with the clues. But everyone else seems to be solving everything before I can even get to it. I've got them all up and am looking them over now.

I'm with you on the ten there, but I don't think blue diamond is ten. I think those three lines on the left form a math expression of some kind, that when evaluated equals blue diamond. Perhaps "one" something "ten" equals?

EDIT: A quick jump into a crossword solver suggests "one add ten equals". Blue diamond is eleven maybe?

EDIT1: The first clue is "Goatee"! It fits with the "one add ten" idea.

EDIT2: Third clue is "redneck". Got it.
