Lyeon Crusade

 

This is a JRPG engine I've been working on for a while that some friends of mine decided to turn into a more formal project. 

Everything is 100% custom made from the coding and spriting all the way to the background music and sound effects.

 

The story follows a young man who decides to join the "golden lion", a hero from the recently ended war, on his crusade.

The latest version can be downloaded here.

 

We update frequently, every few days if appropriate. 

 

Controls

Arrow keys to move

S-main button

A-cancel/back

W-go to menu

 

Features so far

random encounters

skills (which are learned from your equipment)

4 different quest (the main story and 3 side quests for you to do)

2 playable characters (5 of the 6 are all programmed, they just don't come in until later in the game which has not been programmed)

at least a half dozen foes to battle

working overworld engine (set up so you can eventually explore the massive open world without the problem of lagging)

and more!

Looks good!
This project is a lot further along than i thought it was going to be. Very polished! Graphics are solid. Definitely one of the beat jrpgs ive seen on game maker. Look forward to seeing where this goes.

Gradient on the menus are kinda dark in places, you might wanna lighten them so its not hard to see the text.

Thank you for the positive feedback. Did you have any suggestions on things to improve in the game.

Thanks for the feed back. I've uploaded a new version with a temporary fix for the menu. I'm currently in the process of redesigning all of the message boxes/menus. Any suggestions on the mechanics of the game?

  • The entire world map has been implemented (256*175 tiles)

as far as things to work on... Touch up the wolf, he looks a tad silly compared to how solid the rest of your enemies look. Also, i tried the new version and i like the new menu but you should chabge the text and battle menus to match it.
Btw where are the side quests? I found the book for the guy at the castle but thats it...

Thanks for the feed back. I'll be sure to touch up the wolf for the next update. I'm working on the menus right now. I just haven't found a layout for the battle menu that I like. That too should be fixed by the next update though.

 

@king tetiro

Thanks for giving the game a shot. Let me know what you think.

 

Update

  • Added a new skill for the water character
  • touched up some things with the different status effects as well as some attack animations
  • made it so certain elements are more effective against other elements
  • fixed an error with the leveling system that made xp get lower at certain levels
  • added a new monster
  • a whole bunch of other little things that I can't remember, but basically making the game look prettier
