Whats changed/fixed??
(V7) Literally everything

 

  ARANA is a top-down, hack 'n slash attempting to recreate the addictive-ness that I experience with many games today.
Each character has their own Primary and Secondary attacks, as well as stats. You have two meters, an hp meter, and stamana meter. The stamina meter acts as a limit for how much you can attack.
 There are little details and unlocks galore, so please enjoy!

Controls:
Default movement: WASD (change in option menu)
Left click: attack

I played your game for a bit, and it looks like it could be pretty fun!  In its current form, it didn't seem like there was much to it though.  For what is there, things seemed solid.  The controls were good, I liked the arena style combat, and I really liked the little attack animation.

 

I would really like to see the basics presented here in a full game with multiple weapons, enemies, levels, etc. It seems like you have the basics of a nice little action game here and you should keep adding to it.  Also, bonus points for posting a similar style game to mine, A Brief ARPG, which I recently posted.  Love the mouse-controlled, top down style.  

 

Overall, good work and keep adding!

Thanks!!! over the summer I aim to make a few smaller projects,and KEEP them small (that's sort of what killed lead-bound :\ well, that and A lack if focus..) but I may come back to this eventually....

Why are the control JKLI? I don't like the way that's setup.

No sound also makes this game a little boring.

And no menu is really annoying. it would really help the game just having 2 buttons, play & info. (for controls and such)

and more enemy variation! much more.

 

I do like the artwork, and the animations, and the effects!

 

but overall. 5/10. more work on this could really help it out.


Take the pistol, aim the front towards yourself, pull the trigger, why? because it's not a prank gun no longer.

If you want I change the controls goto appdata and look for sav.ini be sure to use caps for the key. But as to why that's the default.... I'm a lefty.. And to be honest I sort of did it out of spite for those games that don't allow key rebinding, even nuclear throne (the inspiration for this game) has that problem, sure I get I'm in the minority, but still. Also the arrow key are not that helpful for leftys again I use IJKL and its FAR less awkward.... Excuse me I think I went on a rant XD

UPDATE v3.1!!

 
Whats changed/fixed?? ("hotfix")
-change: gladiators have two sprite variants
-change: NEW hit detection, word of caution, it still slightly buggy :3
 
-fix: gladiator hp bar centered
-fix: potions no longer crash the game

Happy thanksgiving first off! Second I'd like to discuss quickly the next update of ARANA.
First and foremost: when does it come out? Simple; either later this week or early next month, an exact date is yet to be decided.
Next: What should I expect from the next update? ... That's ALOT to cover, mostly small changes, but a few major additions, such as WIP gamepad support, a new arena and character, and a basic unlock system.
And finally a notice: this will most likely be the last update of 2014, so I hope it will suffice. But the main thing I wanted to mention is beyond V4, mainly new projects aside from ARANA. I'll delve deeper later on but for now know I'd LIKE to do a platformer. As for ARANA... I'd like to finish the second arena (rounding off its playable scifi themed cast, and enemies) and add a last arena, three more characters, then calling it a game.
Epilogue :3: Id personally like to thank the particularly small amount of people who have taken their time to download and play, even if you hated the game :P with every players experience, I learn something new, so please if you have a quiff (or anything that you considered "bad"), don't hesitate to comment (I do read them :D) thanks and have a great year.

The game itself wasn't bad at all. The animation was nice, and although the IJKL control setup was a bit awkward, the movement and game play was smooth.

I did have weird white lines in the arena though. Maybe the ground image isn't big enough? Not sure.

 

Keep up the good work, and don't hesitate to start many new projects. You'll learn something new in each one.

The normal Windows build should be fine under Windows 8. So, if you find out what is causing it, might be worth a bug report to YYG perhaps? :)

The new update changes my personal rating to 8/10.

 

Much more user friendly now.

Seriously, I'm French so I'll give a mark over , but I'd rate it 18/20 !

Clever AI, nice engine, intuitive controls, the bow's a bit hard to use, but the game is complete !

I made it up to Wave 14, with 4/5 of my life, but then I wanted to stop, cuz after some time spent on it, it starts getting always the same..

A music would be appreciated, sounds are nice, graphisms are simple but they do the job perfectly. The difficulty increase is at its perfect level.

Maybe additional weapons could be added every 5 waves ?

I want to create a currency system as well as a menu overhaul. also as for more weapons, have you played smash bros? The most recent game featured a custom fighter system that I could be interested in *cough* *cough* *wink* *wink* I have an idea for how I want to do music, issue being that I have no way of making any anyway, thank for the feedback!! :3

Hello GMC!! I'm going to be quick about this so, away!! First, where have I been? for those who are wondering, i've not said anything since december so, yeah... sorry.. but im back! and i have V5 ready to go, and while its changes aren't incredible, they're a huge personal feat for me. Second when is it coming out?? also a good question. Version "0.5" will be released HOPEFULLY within the week, while I cant promise that, (snow storms this week...) I will try to aim for early next week at the latest. Lastly thanks for waiting! I realize that I update semi frequently, three months is still a while to wait for what may entertain you for say ten minutes (maybe not even :P) So... thanks!! see-ya in V0.5!!!

UPDATE V5: The little things.. (yes i'm naming them now..)

NOTICE: Fullscreen is broken as of right now, check change log.

 

[Features:]
-60 FPS works properly. (after much hassle...)
-FPS has a WIP menu button.
-Nameplates!! (menu only, will add to in game GUI later)
-Factory changes. (partially looks like a factory :D)
-Pointer for when there are few enemies left.
(mainly for the factory. is also WIP)
-EVERYBODY IS UNLOCKABLE!!!...good luck figuring them
out >:3
 
NEW CHARACTER:---
*Trance. a glass cannon, with pricey attacks, but packs
a huge punch, yet bearly pushes enemies away.
-Special: knock-back blast.
[Requires unlock]
 
NEW ENEMIES:---
*??? [im not telling :D]
NOTE: both enemies will appear on a certain wave in
the second arena, you'll know when >:3

Hello world! It has most certainly been a while since the last update. But i'm glad to say that V6 is more than half way finished!

But onto the actual point of this post.

2: as many have noticed. ARANA has been lacking in the music department ever since its prototype days. Needless to say while I've been tinkering with some free software, there will not be any music in the coming update. However, i've devised a proof-of-concept soundtrack with work by Eric Matyas: Soundimage.org the soundtrack link is in the download section of the main post.

Nice, I´m also developing an action top down. I would recommend, to improve your IA.

You mean AI? not sure what IA is. Also I'd love to see your game when it's finished.

 

 

Working so hard.. I need to have a proper build for december 30/31!!. I just started using gm 45 days ago, I have learned a lot!! Well... after collegue I have been all day working on my project and reading documentation

Hi! I've made a gameplay video on your game!

It was a really fun game to play through! I unlocked all the character (Or atleast I think i did) And I played the first and second arena.

 

I mostly played Sal using the Refreshing Ring, Strong Spark, and Skillful Spirit items.

 

 

Some issues I had was at the beginning of the game there wasnt a character stat menu, so I didnt know how strong/weak an item was. (I couldnt compare +10 health from an item, to what my base health was). Another issue I had was after being in an arena for a while, there are a lot of corpses, and in the video, I suggested an option for Corpse Cleanup, where every wave the corpse would get cleaned up, or after beating an enemy, the corpse starts to fade after being there for 10 seconds or so.

 

 

Great game! I look forward to major updates!

Just watched! And I'm impressed! A few short points:

1: loved the thumbnail,

2: thank you for not showing the third arena, (it gives some things left for the viewer to play :D)

3: working on a hotfix for the shop right now, I noticed that during texting, but it flew over my head...
