About:

Hi,

This is a simple project i started a couple of weeks ago. As its name suggests, it's a retro 2D horizontal space shooter.

It includes arcade-ish gameplay and controls, pixelated graphics and vfx, along with 8bit sound effects.

So, yeah... that's all about it.

While being in development, i'd like to get some feedback about it. Every proposal/idea/critisism is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Default Controls: (can be changed withing game options)

Movement: Arrow keys

Fire: Z

Altfire: X

Shield: C

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some stuff to note before playing/commenting:

-> The level running is a test one that never ends.

-> Scoring is just a leftover from a previous version. Just ignore it.

-> Game uses test graphics.

-> Many things need polish.

-> Some motherboards (especially on laptops) have issues withn keyboard input when many keyboard keys are pressed at once. This may cause severe gameplay problems. Nothing can be done about it on my side.

Hi, legal bumping due to new update (download link on post #1).

I didn't get any feedback, as expected because few stuff was included in the previous version uploaded, so i worked on the game and here is a new version.

Some of the key features added/updated:

- Damage (pow) and Attack Speed (att.spd) upgrade for the primary weapon. (Enemies may drop a pickable upgrade item with 4% chance when killed)

- Expanded HUD

- An unfinished menu screen (Options and multiplayer buttons not working yet)

- 2 new enemies

- Fixed some font issues + new, more suitable, pixelated font is used now

- Various bug fixes

In case the first post is "tl;dr" for you, please note:

1) the test level included never ends.

2) some stuff (like the score system for example) need some tweaking and balancing but i didnt bother putting effort there. They can be modified by simply changing the value of some variables.

Game is nice and I have few suggestions.

- The game is very slow for my taste - This could be fixed by increasing attack speed, more enemies on screen and more things to dodge

- Sometimes enemies shots looks like stars

- Some sounds are really loud  :teehee: (enemies, alt shot etc.).

I got around 4500 score but I would get more if I didn't fell asleep  :turned:  .

Keep it up.

Thanks a lot for your comment. Main focus of the next update will be gameplay and enemy variety and i will definetely try to improve the game's pace (most of the people that tried the game out, told me the same thing about attack speed). Expect a new version in the following days/week. Until then, any suggestion or idea is welcome and much appreciated. :)

P.S. Considering the loud noises: i am new to the new audio system used by GM:Studio and to be honest i don't know how to decrease the volume of a specific sound effect (and not sound in general). I didn't put much effort on this part, but it will be fixed as soon as i find some time and a solution to it.

Hi, bumping due to new update. Download link to the new version can be found on the first post. (or here: https://www.mediafir...fkc692sa29jk05v :P )

It's been quite a long time and a bunch of stuff has been added to the game. For a detailed log of changes you can check the Change Log in the first post. Some of the key new features are the following:

- Fully working menu system with game and control scheme configuration

- Test level with a considerable variety of enemies.

- 1 mini-boss and 1 boss with unique A.I.

- 8bit NES-like sound effects

- A crap-ton of improvements to existing mechanisms and addition of new ones.

Multiplayer game mode is currently disabled but most of the game's code is optimized for it. This feature will be availiable at the next update. (2-player co-op mode on the same computer).

I hope you like the game, any feedback will help the developement and is much aprreciated.

Hi, i am still working on the project with a friend and we added some things since the last update (mainly functionality/bug fixing related stuff and code reworks to better support multiplayer, no need to post the update cuz it has nothing new gameplay/content-wise).

The progress has slowed down because we expected to get some feedback before proceeding to actual gameplay and content upgrades. So, yeah, feedback is all that i am asking, in order to get the game on proper tracks. Thanks in advance for your time (to whoever decides to help).
