As in thread title. Is it a trial or will that promotional free version last forever?

Another question, can I (legally) sell my games made with this promotional version?

Once you get a licence for Standard, it's yours to keep forever. And you can make and sell games with ANY version of GameMaker:Studio, even the free one.

Cool! Are any royalties to YoYo Games involved?

None. You buy the product and that's it. A one off fee to YoYo Games... :)

As stated above, YYG isn't associated with marketing. However, I think it's worth stating that if you plan on selling on various webstores (Apple App Store, Google Player, etc) you'll have to pay a bit. I don't think it's too costly though, at least not compared to the rewards you could get!

Yup. Though some engines I've worked with (looking at you, UDK) requires you to pay royalties to engine maker so I wasn't sure if this is the case with GM. And I am aware that various webstores takes various amount of percentage from sales. Probably will sell it via GOG and Humble Store though if I will make it.
