OPEN AREAS FOR NEW PLAYERS!

 

WAR!

A creative graphics-based game

 

I've started this game on many forums in the past, and it always ends up being a blast! So, I figured I would share this great forum game with you guys!

 

Basic Premise:

  • The game consists of a map, and any one person starts their play by "claiming" a piece of land as their own.
  • As a player, you control what your empire does. The key to having fun in this game is CREATIVITY!
  • You can go to war with other empires, research technologies, or do anything you feel like, WITHIN REASON (see rules/guidelines below)

Rules:

  • Don't claim the entire landmass (unless you just want a small island or something) You can expand your land over time, with your own discretion.
  • Please only edit the map for your empire ONCE PER DAY.
  • You can post on this forum more than once per day, but you can only make one update to your kinddom once a day.
  • No altering other people's artwork. If you must do something, try to not make it obtrusive.
  • No nukes, or blowing everything up. That's just not any fun, is it. If you do we'll just go to the last map picture.
  • Save as PNG! Please, just do it. You can upload your image and host it here using an image hosting site (I recommend www.imgur.com)

Also, to make things easier, please choose a color to represent yourself with! Once a color has been chosen, that color cannot be used by other players. If you're confused on anything, don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure there are some things I need to explain better. Also, remember that this isn't a contest. It's about being creative, roleplaying, etc. Think Age of Empires / Civilization / Sim City, but without any restrictions.

I claim the land colored light green and call it "Slovania".

At the moment Slovania is chillin and waiting for other countries :)

Settlers reach a sizable island in the northern area of the world. They decide to name their kingdom after their founder.

 

Kingdom: Crashlandia

Today's Progress: The main capitol building of Crashlandia is constructed. Soon, we can start work on our research laboratory, farmlands and living areas.

That's all for now. Trying to restrain myself from doing too much because the game is so early right now. If we get enough people doing this on a daily basis, things should get more exciting. Also, with the whole color thing...don't worry about it.

A settlement with a relatively large shipyard and a harbord is built. That, ladies and gentlemen, is Townodendron, capital of Lukasia. I also set off a few transport ships into the sea.

Also, that once a day thing is not very clear because of timezones. I suggest you change it to "When you take a new action, 24 hours must have passed since your last action. (Or maybe better 20 or 18 hours. 20 is probably ideal)"

I played it before (although not on the internet but face to face, IRL), and I had a lot of fun.

The one a day thing is merely a guideline. But yeah, basically what you said is good, but I wouldn't sweat it if it's not quite a whole 24 hours. There could be SO many rules for this, but this is the way I handled it before and everything worked out relatively nice.

 

Also, if things are getting boring, I might throw in some sort of event to spice things up, some good and some bad. Any event I introduce wont immediately effect you negatively, however. I'll give you time (like a day or two or three) to respond and find a way to "prevent" it. And don't worry, I won't spare myself from anything either.

One thing I like to do If i really want to post again, but already did today, is to just take your empire and edit the picture for your plans tomorrow. Since nobody should alter your artwork, you won't get ninja'd, and you'll have really pretty stuff to show off tomorrow. (that's what I just finished doing :) )

I think the time thing should be pretty small until we get more player, so the game isn't so slow paced. Once we get more players we could set it back to a day.
EDIT: I really hope this gets a lot of players. I don't think it will be that fun with only a few of us.

For now, just keep the one post a day thing in mind. If we get 5 or 6 empires posting per day it will be perfect. Speaking of which:

Empire: Crashlandia

Today's Progress: Much work has been done, but the research dome, farmland, and initial living areas have all been completed. The first thing the research dome will research are boats, so scouts can explore the landmass to the east. Completion of this research should be in about a day. Also, the capitol building had some landscaping done, because the simplicity and boring-ness of its design was causing the people to riot.

Research: Large Boat Technology (Estimated completion: Tomorrow)

Future Plans: Establish a port on the home island as well as on the landmass to the east.

Lukasia's war technology is pretty primitive. The army consistspurely of infantry armed with weak rifles, uncapable of penetrating sufficiently thick planks. They, of course, have no hand-held machineguns, but they do have gatling gun technology. Their farming technology, however, is superb, and so is their sea transport technology.

Townodendron spreads a bit, and a vertical gets built next to it to feed the citizens. A small building appears on the south-east of Lukasia. Also, colonisation begins. It seems that ships weren't necesary if the area they are going to is the part of the same landmass, but the thing is: Lukasia's ground transportation is not very well developed.

As a country with a lot of population it produces a lot of junk which gets dumped into the ocean. Shall we call the ocean Oceania?

Progress: Built a small city that is already overcrowded. Produced junk that was dumped into the ocean which will be catastrophic for the life on the ocean. If someone doesn't do something about it soon it could turn into a global problem :(

I can jump in?

The Jezrousi explored and built a few small settlements in the forests and crags of the Land of the Kicking Jay.  Culture still too primitive to have any distinct borders, but are looking at the islands to the west.  A rudimentary castle is supporting some scientific-ish development.  Currently working on advanced trebuchet construction.

 

Color: Light Yellow  Should I take dark green?

I recommend you people to start making alliances. This game is called war, after all. It may not be important yet, but once our cultures devlop a bit... I also propose an alliance to Crashlandia. My advanced water technlogy could be of good use to you.

Benefits:
-I don't have to worry about landmass being taken over from there before I get there.
-There is someone blocking off potential attacks at me from PixelTopia, but I think we don't have to worry about Pxeltopia and Jezrousi yet. Still, it will be useful once they get more developed if they are aggresive.
-You can easily spread in my direction, and that is important due to you having only a small island. I will spread onto the large landmass below if there is need for me to spread, because my land transport is less advanced than my sea transport. I'll start making settlements on the northwest coast of the landmass below me and you can spread over there to east part of landmass I'm on. And if a country forms on that landmass between us we should probably ally them.
-If, however, something forms between us, we can perform a blitzkrieg-esque operation on them de to there being two of us.
-Alternatively we can both spread onto the same landmass and take over it entire more easily.
-I have decend sea transport technology and a shipyard. I think we can both benefit from a good amount of transport ships, seeing you only started out with sea stuff. Keep in mind I don't have anything for naval warfare yet, though.
-Army wise, if I focus more on naval warfare you can focus on ground warfare. With both of us having specialisations we will progress further. I could, for example, help you safely get your ground troops securely oversea.

It's probably a bit early to talk about spreading and warfare, but that will also come sooner or later and it is good to have allies in that kind of situation.

In response to the alliance from Lukasia, Crashlandia will accept the alliance invitation. However, we have no current interest in sharing technologies. Instead, we propose a peace treaty. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not really a full fledged post since I'm just accepting an alliance, which is why I'm posting this before tomorrow. And yes, you forgot to add in Jezrousi in your map. I fixed it!

Why just a peace treaty?

I'm focused on improving my naval warfare.

I'm willing to protect your ships in the future if you protect the landmass I'm on. (Or at least part of it) Of course, one both of use develop our technologies.

I think just "talking" between kingdoms is fine to do whenever. Editing the map and doing major things with your kingdom though -- once per day. Also what's a NAP?

right... let see who want to make an alliance with a country that will attempt to rule the entire world? I purpose a alliance to beat the other guys and in the end to rule half and half or third and third or even a temporal alliance, :devil: after all it's not that easy to rule the world alone :rambo

I don't see your image. It seems like you're using dropbox to host it. Could you use www.imgur.com? It's pretty reliable -- Reddit pretty much solely uses it for image hosting.

 

EDIT: Also, yes, it would be greatly helpful if people started to say their country name at the beginning of their turn. I made a little flag I might put on my post's as well. After awhile we'll figure out who everybody is through their avatars and colors and stuff.

Kingdom: Crashlandia
 
Boat research completed! We now have ships capable of making long voyages as well as some naval power. Instead of heading east, the scouts have decided to make a port on the western landmass because of the recent alliance with Lukasia. Both ports have been established, and on the shores of the land to the west, some mineral deposits were found on the surface. Investigation ensued, and a mining facility has begun operating there. In order to get down to the good stuff, some research must first be done on heavy drilling equipment.
 
The people were complaining again, about the beaches on the island. They were ugly as well, so everybody in the kingdom was sent out with shovels to shovel the sand into the ocean. Now our shores are nice and clean :)

 

Research: Heavy Drilling Equipment (Estimated Completion: One Day)
Future Plans: Dig deeper to gather precious metals and other valuables.

Lukasia (brownish dark green)

The project which started right after the shipyard was built is now complete. Ship armaments have been developed and two warships have been built. One of them is sent to Crashlandia in case some future suppport will be needed. I will send more ships, but right now I need to work on getting my resources for such a project. Will probably start working on it next turn.

Currently researching terraforming.

When your ships arrive, you can put them in the area marked off by buoys :) -- Added realism! (feel free to make room in the port if you need to). When I get some valuables from my mining facility, I'll give you some as well, in thanks.

I'm planning on making some oil platforms and a refinery. I'm also going to need ores. So maybe we could trade? You give me ores, I give you oil?

We continue developing nearby, with a small expedition advancing into the mountainous forests.  They discover some kind of natural tarpits.  More south, a wall is being constructed to protect the growing population.

We now built advanced trebuchets, and are exploring how to utilize this new sticky, burny substance in the White Castle.  A shaky boat has been built, and will investigate the black island that appeared on the horizon.

The south wall is finished.  Some settlers build outside, but most stay within, merging the villages into one metropolis.  Some understanding of the tar has been acquired, but studies continue on working with it.  It has been useful in smelting small amounts of metal, but no large amounts of ore have been found.  Expeditions funded by the White Castle venture off in various directions.  Another wall is being built to the north, but progress is slow due to lack of nearby stone.  Smaller boats are built, as well as a larger, wind powered one.  Some brave souls succeeded in burning down their families' houses with a trebuchet firing burning tar.  The road from the Castle through the south road has been expanded.  The natural harbor has been modified slightly, with two more docks being built. 

 

The search for a reliable source of metal continues, but the tar looks promising as a weapon and fuel source.

A bit of work has been done. Some sheeps have been sent to start a new settlement on the northwest of the landmass south. The warship is just there to patrol the are, it isn't part of the settlement making project. :P Preparations for building an oil platform are nearly done. Terraforming is nearly fully researched, along with a bit of research on how to improve naval power.

The proposition for trading oil for ores still stands. Not only with crashlandia, with whoever wishes to accept the offer. I'm gonna need a lot of resources in the future.

My land will probably come across quite a few ores once we get a dig site going. But oil in sandy areas is also common. Perhaps there is other things we can trade for?

Well, you live in a desert, and we have advanced farming technology. We could sustain you, so there is that. We are also in the position of producing some sweet arsenal for sea combat, so there is that, too.

Food is not a huge concern for my people. I can easily get waterducts and sugar cane farms going. However technology would definetly lead us into a healthy alliance. Though my people are normally peacful, they are also very trust-worthy. In other words, if you have an alliance with them and you get into a war...you can most likely count on them to back you up.

First off: No doing more than one turn per day, even if you skip a day (However, if you haven't posted in awhile, I think you could get away with doing a bit more in your turn. Keep it reasonable)

Kingdom: Crashlandia

 

Heavy drilling equipment research completed! The mines were expanded further downwards, and many precious metals were found. A ship was sent to Lukasia carrying some tributes from the facility. Some high-rise structures were also built from the resources gathered from the mines, and a top secret project was started to the north.

 

Current Research: Terraforming (Estimated Completion: 3 days) Completion of this research will enable changing of landscapes, both on sea and on land. When this research is complete, we may use it on the ever-growing pollution in the southern half of the world. Completion of this research will not be light. It is a huge technology, and will be used extensively when the research is completed.
