Excellent topic! I'll move this into the GMCJam forum right now... +1!

Here are some resources for you too:

OpenGameArt.org - General sprites and stuff. not great quality, but they'll do in a pinch.

GM ToolBox - some great dll and extensions to be had there.

Wolfram:Tones - Procedurally generated mathematical music.

GMLScripts.com - Best damn site on the net for GM.

SeventhSanctum - One of my favourite sites. Need a name for something? Then go here and be prepared to spend some time just exploring all they have.

FreePD - Public Domain music for anything

I originally didn't list it, because Bfxr is apparentally a kind of "upgrade" to Sfxr. But I'll add it.

Edit: also fixed SynthFont link,

So there's random music generators nowadays? Looks like the only thing left to invent is a random graphics generator, and then you don't need humans to make games anymore.

NaturalGM is another alternative GM:S IDE made by daspirit.

Creative Idea Generator gives you random words and icons. It actually works, it gave me a game idea before.

FL Studio is good for making music.

VEditor is a nice lever/room editor made by Bleed.

I'll try to find more stuff.

It even runs on Windows XP now! (latest update only, download directly at http://parakeet-ide.org/)

Model processor, a simple tool for importing .obj files, giving them an outline and converting the model to GML. It does not preserve triangle normals or vertex colour, as I made this specifically for a project of mine that doesn't use any of those. Use this tool if you want a cartoony look without lighting.
utennavnpjp.png
Download
Mirror

"Generate code" places the code to generate the model in GM on the clipboard.
"Terrain code" gives you the code to add the model to an existing model, with a specified orientation and scaling. Useful if you want to optimize your models.

When importing the model it assumes Y was up in the model editor, as that is normal, and rotates it so that Z is up in gamemaker. It works well for models created in Lightwave, I don't know how it behaves otherwise.

LMMS is a free open-source music making package. It was originally made for Linux systems, but has been ported to Windows. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it is powerful and makes excellent music.

Another music maker, simpler and older, is Tunafish.

I sometimes use a font in an image file then forget what font it was I used, which is annoying when I want to reuse it. This tool can help identify your font for you when you upload an image with some text in it.

If you're looking to make particle effects quickly in Game Maker (both Legacy and Studio), I have this particle system GUI that I wrote awhile ago to preview particle systems live. It's written in Game Maker, so what you see is what you will get if you use the code.
