Here is my entry. It's incomplete for now, but I was put in a bind. Let me go into detail, just to tell you what I had to go through. So, the jam lasts for 3 days right. Two of those three days I worked a double, meaning all day (meaning little sleep). Also, at the moment we are experiencing a hurricane (Hurricane Sandy). It's a punk hurricane, but a hurricane nonetheless, so rain, flooding ect. This left me with little time to actually WORK on the game the way I wanted too. So that's why my entry is roughly 30 minutes late. Had I made it home earlier, my entry would have made it in seconds, but it is what it is.

Synopsis
Created in around eight working hours for GMC Jam #8. Blow up the word with your dynamite-equipped pogo stick, and go for the longest distance you can before dying at the hands of the disaster-struck, lava-flooded, due-for-distruction city of... uh... Dynaster.

Notes
When the sun turns orange, it's a new best survival distance! Thank-you for being QA for this game, you are in the credits with the best distance noted! (sneaky handicap workaround :ninja:)

Controls
Use your mouse to point the pogo stick where you want to bounce. Click to add up to three levels of explosive power (resets to 1 each time you bounce off something).

I really like the idea, and I want to clean up the graphics, add more items to place, and really get what I originally envisioned done before I release it.

Alien Beatdown:
Carnage
Dub Edition - Freestyle

I gave up because I have two quizzes on monday and other various assignments.
Here is a small demo that is very laggy and slightly glitchy.

I don't see the purpose behind this but I also don't see a purpose behind not doing it so here:

Source to
Alien Beatdown:
Carnage
Dub Edition - Freestyle

The source version is actually a postjam version with less bugs!
I also removed most of the unused resources in the file.
But don't worry, I left all the cool unused resources.
No credit needed if you use anything.

Game Name: yet to be determined

[Day one]
[8:14pm EST]
Considering entering!
[8:15pm]
Well im quite busy, but you cant go wrong with trying...
got a first idea...
[11:43pm]
yep, I started for a while! If I dont lack time, it will happen!
Sketched the basic Idea
It will follow the Theme, not the handicap.
(AAAAWWESOME!)
[1:07am]
Enough for today... progress was kind of dissapointing... but the game should still be achievable.
-Worked on sprites (very lame ones)
-Made a new HUD code... which looks exactly like my old one, but more efficient... hope it will be worth it.

[Day2]
[10:27pm]
Ready to get back on it! (see that big time hole! I knew id be too busy!)

[Day 3]
[2:00 Am]
Ending the above session.
Created more buildings
Created the first disaster... if all else fail, the entry will be about that alone.

[3:00 pm]
Im back! lets see what i can do! (likely last session)
Second disaster is in!
Improved my disaster maker!
The game is starting to feel like one!

[4:09 pm]
Got an artist on board!
llama man :)
This should get interesting!

stuff happened
[LLimit]
didnt have time to finish, but this is it:

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature,
nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.
Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits
in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.

Day 1 : hour 1 - We are thinking of a game that involves disasters. This is what we have so far: The player builds a house by finding some resources and shop to buy the defenses he needs. The game will be like a day by day game. The player needs to get some food and stuff to survive and build/upgrade his house so that when the disaster strikes, it doesn't destroy his house and kill him.

HAPPY FISH

DOWNLOAD!!!

Posted Image

The Happy Fish is a game where you play as a fish, following a trail of fish food into the unknown. But then you see some things that do not belong at the bottom of the ocean...

You guide the happy fish with the mouse, and you have to try and avoid the sea urchins (or whatever you want to call the spiky things).

It is not the best level design I have ever done (this is!), but hopefully you will enjoy the "story".

EDIT: There seems to be a bit of confusion about the game (which I know is my fault) so if you are stuck at "the surface", read on.

Brolly

Download: Brolly

Some info:
- There is a storm/hurricane and you must shoot the flying debris in the air.
- Green hud bar is your health.
- White is hud bar is the 'power bar'. It decreases whilst shooting and prevents you from shooting if it reaches zero. This stops you just constantly holding down the shoot button. It regenerates whilst not shooting.
- Arrow keys to move.
- Z to shoot (yes, a shooting umbrella for some reason  )
- X to 'zap' (destroys all debris within a certain radius from the player, but requires/uses 3/4 of power bar)
- Player and debris are affected by the strong winds. The dial in the top left shows the current direction of the wind. The player and debris are slowly blown in this direction.
- 2 powerups (health and extra fire power for limited time)
- Random lightning (an alarm goes off and a target appears on the screen a second or two before hand to show you which side of the screen it will appear on and give you time to move to the opposite side.
- Make sure you play with sound! The mood is ruined without it.
- After you die, a screen is shown where you are given a rating out of 5 stars. See if you can get 5!

GENERIC NINJA GAME
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
The original version of the game has a bug where it does not work properly when you complete a level. You can access the levels via loading them in the level editor. I have made a fix for this post-jam, with no other changes. If you want to play this version instead, to save yourself the trouble, click this link: https://dl.dropbox.c... Game Fixed.zip
Itherwise, click the link below for the original version.

I have finished several tutorial levels and a few proper levels. It also has a level editor. There was a lot more I wanted to do with this game, but I ran out of time. Anyways, here is the link:

Crazy Taxi Texter

Posted Image

Features:

- Terrible voice-acting!
- Pretentiously serious themes!
- Amazingly unique lameplay gameplay!
- Crappy Retro graphics!
- It even has sound! (Unlike someone's previous jam entry... mine  )

Just imagine this, you're on the road, in your car, in the middle of traffic. But what's this? You've got a text from a friend, an important one too, (organising your next trip to the pub is bloody important) you must reply! But you're driving, what could possibly be the solution? Texting while driving of course! Genius...Pay no attention to those strangers shouting at you, after all, what do they know about importance or safety. You just carry on using your amazing supersonic hearing to detect oncoming cars and evade them with great speed as you text one-handed. After all, you can multi-task with ease, right?

Download it today! [UPDATED] The "announcer" is probably easier to understand now.

10:50 am GMT, 58 hours 50 mins into the jam, 13 hours 35 mins work put in -- The game is finished! It actually took longer than I thought it would to get from the initial idea to the finished game but it was worth it! The game features a (very short) cut scene to set the story, a continuous game play mode and three high scores. To get around no scoring with text I've made the score system pumpkin based. It's basically just a sprite font of pumpkins that get gradually more shaded from 0 to 9. Clever eh? No? Well, whatever what do you know anyways. Download link, game play video and screenshots coming shortly. :) Cheers, Dan. Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: None.

4:00 pm GMT, 40 hours 00 mins into the jam, 11 hours 45 mins work put in -- Really happy at the moment! Spent a solid 3 hours after lunch on the game and it's nearing the point where I could just whack it up if I wanted to! :D Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: None.

12:40 pm GMT, 36 hours 40 mins into the jam, 8 hours 25 mins work put in -- Re-worked the game screen a little bit to give the player more room to do what they want and make the graphics slightly more pleasing. Off for a sunday roast now. Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: None.

11:40 am GMT, 35 hours 40 mins into the jam, 7 hours 25 mins work put in -- Made huge strides in the past hour, I've been working on the opening of the main game. Little pictures come down on strings to instruct the player what to do. I'm hoping they're not too simple, but generally everyone here knows the basic controls of a platform shooter right? :P Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: You had me at hello - Mystery Jets

10:30 am GMT, 34 hours 30 mins into the jam, 6 hours 15 mins work put in -- Making decent progress on the engine and the characters. The player character is shown here. Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: Zaleilah - Mandinga

9:15 am GMT, 33 hours 15 mins into the jam, 5 hours work put in -- Clocks went backwards last night. Finally back in line with GMT :D Anyways, I did about an hour or so of work last night but didn't post here. Basically I just did more graphics so I deemed that pretty boring. This morning I've been blagging music from our ever beloved friend Kevin MacLeod. This game's shaping up to be a good 'un. Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: Levels - Avicii

2:45 pm BST, 13 hours 45 mins into the jam, 3 hours 45 mins work put in -- I've made the graphics for some enemies. The game's already looking and sounding pretty nice. Nowhere near as much work needs to go into this as any of my previous entries as there won't be level selects... just carnage! :D Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: I don't like mondays - Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats

1:45 pm BST, 12 hours 45 mins into the jam, 2 hours 45 mins work put in -- I've had a few neat ideas since I last posted. The game is actually nothing really new in terms of game play or even graphic style, but I'm hoping that it comes out as nicely polished as I currently imagine it being! The idea is that the main character is the last person on earth after an attack by pumpkins. You read correctly. The game play is basically a hectic continuous platform shoot 'em up with various weapons until you and your character can take no more punishment. The aim is obviously to get the high score... the only problem I'm having right now is how to show score without using text! Hm... Thinking time! Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: Behind the bunhouse - Mystery Jets

12:00 pm BST, 11 hours into the jam, 1 hour 30 mins work put in -- So I've pretty much set out all the things I have to do now, GFX, SFX etc. I think this will shape up to be a nice game :) Picture for this Entry.
Current Jamming Music: Lines - Lucy Rose

11:00 am BST, 10 hours into the jam, 30 mins work put in -- I've come up with a concept and a title. I'm making my entry quite jokey again and hoping to just create something that you guys will enjoy playing :) As it says above, don't vote for me at the end - I did know both the theme and handicap before the start of the jam. Reviews will obviously be hugely welcome though :D Cheers, Dan. Picture for this Entry.

Turtle Termination

Download Turtle Termination

Ok I'm going to enter this jam!

After making Nostradamus for the last jam, and it was an awesome experience I'm going to try and make another game this weekend!
This time I will try learning the physics engine included in GameMaker Studio.

The game is called Turtle Termination
It's a physics game where you must protect different amphibians from the apocalypse(s). It can be a meteor rain, volcano eruption, melting glaciers, poison rain and whatever else I can come up with.

I really appreciate being able to participate in this jam, I have never attempted to finish a game in such a short period of time. I might take this too seriously as its my first GAME JAM I've been working on this project nearly every waking hour. Most of my games are half finished and never see the light of day. This experience has helped me get past my perfectionist attitude and really get something worth while done! Thanks GMC!

Disaster Determined
Disaster Determined, is a top down shooter. You pick a city and attempt to save it. Each city is unique in its task and map layout. You can complete the missions in any order. See if you can save every city in one go. There is no saving, good luck!

Currently the demo has 3 city missions available. I worked hard on the graphics, the game's robust AI and Vision systems(watch out when looking around corners). I like to think it's on the difficult side, so play carefully. There is no saving and you get 1 chance at each city.

City 1 has a bomb threat, get to it and disarm it before the time limit is up.
city 2 has a zombie outbreak, rescue the vaccine before it take over the world!
city 3 Alien invasion, show them whos boss of this planet.

Controls:
Move: W, S, A, D
Switch weapon: 1, 2
Left click: Fire, use your mouse to aim.
Reload: R
Have fun: Play the game

:medieval: Download Here(.zip)(early work in progress)

okay, decided on a game a while ago, time to make a devlog.

</spoiler> okay, so this jam i have decided to make a scrolling shooter. I have never done this type of game so it should prove interesting :D

you play as an antivirus trying to save a computer from viruses. trying to create a visual landscape that conveys that.

overall im pretty happy with it :D <spoiler>

okay, almost done with the engine. im gonna now start making levels.

I diddnt update the screenie because it looks about the same, other than a few minor GUI changes.

lets see, added enemy spawning system and whatnot.
added explosions (note to self: no more particles) when you kill enemys.
added a help menu (TEXT FREEEEE)
I also added sound. thats right, I have a tool that randomly generates sounds, so it can take quite a while to find a good one for something specific, still working on exploding sounds (click, click, click)
and I broke out the coffee :D

I also now have a working demo.... sort of.

I will need some testers soon, because I think I might be going overboard on the particles, so if you have an older PC and want to PM me. I dont have a working demo yet, but I will soon.

special thanks to icymx for making the great song "now might be a good time to run" for the game :D

EDIT: the game is complete. check it out and download it at https://www.box.com/...v3qkp2nt05gezrl

okay.... ima go make a topic for it now XD

Aqua Ascent

*hopes link works*

Aqua Ascent is a game about avoiding the flood! Climb up, up, up!

Plot twist: You don't control yourself!

Place the blocks using the mouse, right click to rotate (or if you installed Windows 8 and your right click doesn't work because your drivers aren't supported, you can press space). You can only jump one block at a time, so plan accordingly!

The target gets harder each time you play, so be sure to try a few times if you think it's too easy to reach the top of the bar thingy that fills as you climb.

And finally, I hope the game doesn't need all this explanation as there's only basic pictures in the game, and most people aren't gonna read this!
