YoYo Games today announces that GameMaker: Studio™, its cross-platform games development environment, will support Microsoft Corp.’s launch of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. GameMaker: Studio™ allows developers to create games in a single code base and then easily export with one button click and run them natively on multiple formats including HTML5, Facebook, Android, iOS, Windows and OS X. GameMaker: Studio™ for Windows 8 will be available for developers prior to October 26 while GameMaker: Studio™ for Windows Phone 8 will be available following device availability later this year.
“We are thrilled to be working closely with Microsoft to launch GameMaker: Studio™ for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8,” said Sandy Duncan, chief executive officer at YoYo Games. “The beauty with GameMaker: Studio™ is that it’s extremely easy for developers who have already or are currently developing with our environment to have Windows Style UI games ready for publishing on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in a short amount of time.”
“We are excited that YoYo Games is bringing Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 publishing to the GameMaker: Studio™ development community,” said John Richards, senior director, Windows Apps Marketing at Microsoft. “We are looking forward to expanding the Windows 8 development community and the breadth of apps available across Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.”
GameMaker: Studio™ has been developed with usability and efficiency at its core, allowing developers to create games in a single code base and then export and run them natively on multiple formats including HTML5, Facebook, Android, iOS, Windows, OS X, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. GameMaker: Studio™ offers a powerful, yet simple to use drag-and-drop integrated development environment with a built-in games-oriented scripting language that considerably increases games development productivity. GameMaker: Studio™ is a best-of-breed platform that caters to entry-level novices and seasoned game development professionals equally.

Very nice guys. Exactly what we asked for. Is the model here a module that needs to be purchased like the other mobile platforms or will be done the same way we create things for windows now?
I suppose Windows Phone 8 will be a module. Not sure of the demand for a windows 8 module though.

Cant be worse than the sales on Android that's for sure. If the Surface tablet is as good as the reviews there could be some revenue stream there. Albeit a small one.

So I'm guessing YYG's is going to have to repackage and price GM:Studio Master Collection to include the Win 8 export. $699.99?
I was going to propose this. Though this is wonderful news, I questioned being able to develop for the surface tablet. But I hope that current studio owners gets a sweet deal!

If you really want PS3 and XBox then speak to Sony and Microsoft - start a campaign to let us develop it...

Xbox 360 could work, as the Xbox Live Marketplace is kinda indie-friendly (although has limitations).
PS3 and Wii I doubt it, Unity for example supports PS3 and Wii but I think there's just a single Wii indie game on there, plus a PS3 one developed by Unity staff. Sony and Nintendo are not really in favor of indies or small studios, at least up until now.
