I'd like to know if anyone knows why my older 3d games suddenly have graphics bugs. Most of the sprites are stretched one way or another, usually creating the effect that they're off-center or sinking into the floor. These issues weren't present before, and I'm not the only one who sees them. The title screen of Splatterhouse 3D is an immediately apparent example.

Here's how the house should look at the title sequence.

And here's how it looks now (starting at 1:05).

If you watch further you'll note the player's confusion as to collecting points, keys, and health seemingly out of nowhere. This is because most of the items -- including weapons, which is a major problem -- have sunken so deep into the floor that they're invisible! What's causing this? It'd be nice if I could fix it.

I use GM7 for the record. I made this game with GM6, though, and converted it. If that helps at all.

Make the sides of your sprites be powers of 2. It's required by some cards for the sake of efficiency. You should also note that the GM manual tells you to do this.

NOTE: Didn't even have to look at your screenshots.

Which is funny because the sprites WERE powers of 2. Did discover the issue while investigating the d3d code (by dumb luck, if nothing else), but this still doesn't explain what causes the graphics to look fine in 2007 and jacked up in 2012.

Thanks anyway.

Out of curiosity, what was the issue? Even if it wasn't the problem that so many other people encounter, I might be able to suggest a reason why it changed.
