@GMKizzle maybe he asked for personal help? Or maybe he has already checked the other forums? Think before you assume.

I think it would be a great idea to get a step by step tutorial going here. I wanna learn Online to, however I can only connect
servers to clients, nothing more.

GM8 does not contain native functionality for online so other programming languages and skills must be used as well.
Here are two popular tutorial for online:
Online Gaming The Right Way - Tutorial
MMORPG - Shooting & Weapons - Tutorial

Note: Online is not for the feint-hearted. It involves A LOT MORE WORK and most online projects never get completed due to their complexity, time and / or cost.

GM HTML5 is more suitable to online but it still requires other programming language skills.

Noele is right, you have to have dlls and sometimes extensions for creating online games. I have tackled the problem multiple times, but
I have never made any viable results.

However Noele GM8 and GM8.1 do contain native functionality for online game development. However it is not a good idea to use. This
would be mplay, I don't recommend using it though.

The mplay functions were designed for LAN (Local Area Network) where all "games" are connected to the same local network. Although it is possible to use them, opening up ports to give unrestricted Internet access is likely to cause security concerns.

Oh it does cause security problems. That's one reason why I don't use it.
However that's off topic here. I think it'd be cool to start a forum to run through
each step for setting up a basic client / sever and basic data sending.

What do you think? I can do the setting up for connections, however I cannot
do data sending. :/

well, the links above that Noele gave me seem kinda weird, can you even use C++ in gamemaker?
And the second link keeps going to a website that doesnt have the example to download.

Im on my phone now so excuse the crude writing..

If you goto the tutorials section he will be able to get personal help, from the many specialised topics explaining how to create online games.

For example: howtomakeanmmorpg.com by truevahlla
(im on my phone, so i understand i misspelt, do some searching like i said before and youll find)

He goes step by step teaching those who don't know anything at all about game maker (which should not be the case if you want to venture into making games online) to make an online game with game maker.

Edit: @fatalsheep and i did think before i assumed. The shear fact he does not own pro tells me he is far from ready to attempt an online game. If you want to create anything successful online, you should first be able to do anything offline.

I have not assumed anything about his game making ability but he has not even started to even get close to harnessing and mastering the powers of game maker (something usually needed for attempting online especially with game makermaker) if he hasn't even bought pro yet.

Please think before you assume
