Which one do you like better for a game. For the camera to keep going up while you race to the top, or the camera going down while you race to the bottom? : )
- Thanks! : D

I would almost always use UP as that seems to be the industry standard.
DOWN should be used if there is an implication of falling however (ie. avoiding debris as you hurtle out of your recently exploded aircraft)
UP should be used if it is a top down travel game (ie. top down view of a car driving along the highway to reach the next toilet before the driver explodes)
Hope that helps

I thought this topic would feature a debate about sub-atomic particles. bu-dum-cha! </physics joke>
Up is generally preferred for racing games, scrolling shooters, most platformers, little arcade games, anything along the horizontal plane, etc. The exception is where the game takes place in the vertical plan (platformers, usually) and downward movement is involved, such as where the player is falling or digging downward.

Is this just a general question because you feel like it, or are you actually making a game? If it's for a game, then please tell us more about it (ideas, gameplay) so we can give a considered and intelligent answer that directly relates to the project you are working on instead of vague "consensus of opinion" answers which help noone...
