Hello,

I am not affiliated with Codecademy at all. I am just a satisfied user that has touched up/learned a lot of skills from the free courses they offer. It is a great site for beginners because it is taught in an interactive environment. I know a lot of people, inexperienced and new to Game Development, see GameMaker as an easy way out. The majority of those people can't code. If this sounds like you then this site is for you. It doesn't get much easier than this!

Go out and learn!

I've used this as well. It's great to get your feet wet in another language. Strongly suggest anyone who is interested in furthering their programming to give it a shot.

Well the syntax is almost the same in every programming language so, choose any :)

Apart from what Debels said.
I'd say that from my experience, I would say that if you want to learn GML, it would be better to just make games through gamemaker and ask questions t the community.
They do basically have the same syntax but since GM already remove a lot of the hard bits from gamemaking learning another language to help learn GML wouldn't make sense to me.

EDIT: That said if you ever want to move away from GM to be taken more seriously in the game making world, Python is a great starting language, so I'm told, made even easier by knowing GML before hand.

I would suggest any as well, but if you want advice on a certain language Javascript is extremely easy to learn. If you know Javascript, you can code anything in GML by just applying that knowledge with the Reference guide built into GM. Plus if you are using HTML5, Javascript is handy for online features. The structure of every language is very similar, it's the syntax that is different; that's where the Reference guide comes in handy.

I completely don't know how all this thing is done. Whether starting from zero or not. I just meant that knowing them can help me alot in web stuff.

Oh, well for making a blog you will also need server scripting, unless you want to edit it and add it yourself. For server scripting you could use PHP or JSP (JSP is paid, but faster than PHP, thought PHP is really fast).

I love this website, it was a great crash course for one of my CSE classes and some projects I was working on this past year.
