As some of you might have accidentally noticed, there's GM8 and GM8.1.
In the Q&A section, there are a lot of questions from users who have not updated their GM version from 8.0 to 8.1, which means that the differences between 8.1ers and 8.0ers might cause some trouble while answering questions. The most obvious fact is that 8.1 files can't be run by 8.0. When doing an example for a user it's ugly to find out that he can't access the file (same happens with codes valid in 8.1, which throw errors in 8.0), as he tells you "I'm using 8.0". Not being able to know exactly what software the user has from the first place can cause inconvenience for both sides. That's probably why the GM version field has been added to the profile settings. What I'm suggesting is: why not add a GM8.1 label, so that things get more clear?
I, for instance, use GM8.1, but below my username, in every post, it says "GM8", which is not entirely wrong, but is quite confuse, as differences between the two sub-versions are major.
