No no and no. I understand your reasoning, but platforming and sideview games eliminate that sense of 3-directional eluding that topdown (read: 3/4's topdown) naturally encourages. I think that 3/4 view allows the best sense of exploration and direction that bird's-eye and platform can't offer. In a zombie game, the most important thing is visual information, and that ranks above ease-of-programming....
Also, change the game from a TDS to a platformer game to make it possible to incur fall damage and add an element of suspension: all the dark back alleys in the background may potentially contain hidden zombies that jumps out on you. In a TDS game, you always see zombies coming, not so in a platformer.
What would _you_ like in a zombie game?
