With the recent price drop I decided to finally give GM4Mac a try to see if I'll like it before possibly diving in to Studio. I bought it through the Mac App Store rather than directly from YoYoGames for various reasons.

Unfortunately, I didn't look at the release notes page until after I made the purchase, and now I see that the version on the Mac App Store is 7.5.83 and the latest version in the notes is 7.5.86. Not a huge difference, however I think I would like the performance improvement mentioned from 7.5.86.

So, tl:dr; will you be updating the version available through the Mac App Store?

Game Maker for Mac hasn't been updated in years, so I don't think they really care that much.

According to the Yoyo games site there are plans to bring GameMaker for Mac in line with the PC version as of 9.0, which is currently due out in 2013. So, hang in there and they will sync up.

The 8.x release was bypassed for the Mac version though.

I think you'll find the plan is to create a new product compatible with both Windows and Mac, and you'll be very lucky to see this in 2013 (considering they haven't started development). There's no indication that GM for Mac users will be given a free upgrade or even a discount.
