So I created this game and put it in the completed games forum and received a comment saying that I needed something unique about the gameplay. I agree, the gameplay becomes very repetitive after a while. Here's the topic for my game: http://gmc.yoyogames...howtopic=547084

I've thought of maybe adding more structures to build, different enemies, perhaps different areas as well. Also I was thinking have a boss fight every 10 waves or so. I just wanted to know if anyone else has a different idea that will really make the game stand out. By the way I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, I figured game Ideas was a good place to get more ideas for my current game.

To start with, not to mean but you should get some better graphics. I think it would be a g reat Idea to add a boss every X waves. You could also add so that different enemies can resist some weapons like strengths and weaknesses...And that the bosses should be original and you need to do certain things in a certain order to kill it like in most games. That's it I could think of.

Yeah I'm painfully aware that my graphics aren't good :/ I'm a terrible artist. Luckily I have a friend who's good with art who agreed to help me. As far as bosses go, that's a great idea to have to do something unique to kill them. Resistances is also a good idea. Thanks for the input!

Perhaps other areas with different creatures than zombies. Maybe for your story aliens did it.

Strange how four topics lead to aliens. I suppose Nintendo Nightmare 2 could count.

I understand your frustration. I'm going through some of the same problems myself. In fact, I'm probably gonna start up a new topic just to get some help. But for now: I can only repeat what the others have said. And if that fails, you can always watch Extra Credits. (Love those guys) In case you do aliens though, don't do zombie aliens. That would just come across as running out of ideas, you know what I mean...

ok. lets start.
1. fullscreen needed.
2. better graphics.
3. more enemys.
4. more weapons.
5. stuck at 6 wave, not find any zombie.
6. first waves are jsut too easy. first wave have only 1 zombie O_O
7. some music would be nice.
8. reminder near (wave complete - press enter for new wave)
9. change controls. to wasd maybe + mouse maybe.
10. ???
guess thats all for now

I played your game and really enjoyed it.

1. Would be cool if zombie corpses didn't disappear, I don't think that would create much lag anyway.
2. More fast paced!
3. I like the building mechanic, haven't seen that one before. But it takes to long to afford anything.
4. Different skins. Perhaps 5 different skins for the same zombie type.
5. Day and night cycle, just different lighting thats all. And maybe shorter view distance for a scarier feeling?
6. I like the controls but have a option to use WASD instead, and scrap the "S to move away from mouse" it just doesn't feel natural at all.
7. Music!

But cool and fun little game to kill some time on!

I really loved your game! I found it fun to play through the waves of enemies!

Here is a few things I would like to say about it:

Problem: You can make (what basically is) a Turret for about 124$ instead of 350$
By creating things such as this: Posted Image between rounds you can get a pretty good system going. I got to the point where I knew one of my sides was safe because I had about 5-6 of these there.
Solution: I cannot really think of too many ways to stop this, perhaps lower the price of Turrets?
---------------------------------------------------
Problem: You don't know what the store items are until after you purchase.
I thought that there where two different helpers that you could buy so I bought a bunch of shopkeepers thinking they would help... they didn't. I wasted a few hundred on them which I thought kinda sucked.
Solution: Add a pop-up to the store menu for when you scroll over an item like this:
Posted Image
So you can know what you are buying.
---------------------------------------------------
Problem: Game startup is so damn slow!
I know that room transitions can be great and all but I found that the setup you had took way too long. At first I thought my computer was making it lag but the rest of the game ran smooth.
Solution: Speed up the start-up or at least let us click our way to the next room instead of the wait.
---------------------------------------------------

I liked the style you have going with the blocks, imho, you should stick with it.
Here are a few things I think should be added:
  • Strafing with A and D (or left and right of any control scheme)
  • Different Skins for Zombies and Helpers
  • Civilian Mode where you need to protect them from Zombies
  • Barrels that you can shoot to explode
  • Radar (Even as an later unlockable)
  • Better menus (An options area would be great)
  • Ability to change the control scheme
  • Achievements
  • Multiplayer (This one is a stretch, but would be awesome)

My only regret is that I didn't think of this game first. :P

It seems the problem is too little in your game. Like Nintendo Nightmare 1, it will get boring.

Thank you all for your wonderful feedback and excellent ideas! I'm going to get to work on a much improved version and call it a sequel. Here are the changes that I will most likely make:

-Click to select items instead of pressing keys
-More weapons
-Option to turn off blood and gore
-Better graphics including different zombie skins
-Boss waves every so many rounds
-Increase in difficulty
-More terrain types
-Different enemies
-Faster paced
-Make items more affordable
-Day and Night cycles
-WASD controls
-Find a fix for cheap mercenary turrets
-Rollover popup on menu items
-Options area on main menu
-Rescue civilians for more gold (? still deciding whether or not to do this)
-Exploding barrels (? still deciding)
-Radar
-Achievements (? still deciding)

You should make a mobile version of this game!

EDIT: Don't forget about the starting credits!

The game will always take that long. That screen is the actual game maker startup screen. The only way to skip that is to not start the game.

I don't think you understand what I mean, I do not mean the loading screen but the credits at the start of the game.

You must think that I am dumb if you thought I meant the loading screen.

Actually. I have not played the game, so I did not know there were any credits. I thought it started at the battling screen.
