downloading right now :)

just a question, how did you make the cinematic trailers? did you animate them yourself, or use clips from games?

I'd say you can also use Blender to make animations. I use Blender to create models which I turn into sprites, so I already have some of the work done. And you can always use those models to create animations for trailers, as well as higher detailed graphics for backgrounds, title screens, etc...

Another 3d program would also work as well, but Blender is free, and the other good ones, such as Maya and 3dsmax, are not free.

Yes, I have looked into blender, it seems like a good program. How do you turn the models into sprites? Are you able to somehow get 360 frames of the model and turn it into a sprite?

You basically do renders of said model with proper lighting. I wouldn't recommend 360 frames, rather do it in intervals of like 15 degrees. Also, look at the different anti-aliasing methods to see which one looks best for the resolution you want. If the rez is small, like 32x32 or less, you'd need catmull-com, but bigger ones can use the other methods fine.

The key to remember is that depending on the final size, you may not have to model of of the detail. Why put fur on a cat if it is going to end up as a 16x16 mini-NPC, make sense?
