Game Maker forum,
When starting Game Maker 8.1 Lite I often get the error message:
This application has failed to start because libeay32.dll was
not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Sometimes it will start after waiting a minute but sometimes
I have to re-install????

Yup, a Dll the program needs is missing. Just re-install it in the same folder. Your projects will not be lost.
