Item suggestions for my game

Well I am making a platform games with character sprites that fit in a 32x32 box, in the game you play as Mario and Luigi and it's sort of an adventure Co-Op type game so far but to be honest I myself am not even sure where I am going with it. I am just adding whatever comes to mind. I started making this game with the idea of having fun with it all the way through and putting any crazy crap I think would be fun.

And btw the game is going to be called Uber Mario & Luigi unless I change my mind for some reason.

What I want YOU to do is participate in the randomness because I would like some Item Ideas to add as a reward for collecting Cool Coins and beating bosses. I have already added some things like shooting fireballs (DUH), double jumping and bombs, but I am running out of ideas in that category for whatever reason.

So if you would suggest something that will not be super ultimate and make the game easy but still and awesome thing to have and could maybe be used to solve puzzles and stuff then I will take them to mind with an open mind and maybe use it.

And the good part about it is when I am done, it will be posted on YoYoGames so you can try it with YOUR item idea (Maybe...) in it!

As you can see the graphic style is what I like to call, Amateur style!

An item that makes the other player fire/super/star mario/luigi... An item that makes all indestructible blocks except the ones the players are standing on disappear for a few seconds, making non-flying enemies fall into traps or areas where they can't hassle the players... An item that gives the player koopa paratroopa wings... An item that calls forth a great and terrible monolithic pillar from the stygian abyss, which drives all enemies to madness... An item that just makes headcrabs appear everywhere... An item that creates a big black line across the screen, where enemies that fall in are never seen again, and players that fall in collapse and become frothing, gibbering madmen, unable to ever commune with other people and scribble on their PC ancient daemonic latin phrases, until finally they decide that death is their only respite, and call on Skeleton Bowser to bring sweet, sweet, Game Over...

Doesn't asking other people to come up with ideas for your game kind of defeat the purpose and fun of "Making a game with the idea of having fun all the way through and putting any crazy crap I think would be fun"? Anyways, we could be of more help if we had some idea of what your game played like, how the co-op worked, what the tone is, complexity, et cetera. Otherwise, we're left to make assumptions and fill in the blanks ourselves, and I just started reading "The Complete Collected Fiction of HP Lovecraft." I would normally assume it was just a Mario-clone-type game, but there's co-op and puzzles and other stuff...

Hmmmm, At first I was thinking of permanent and more relative to the player kind of Items but you got me thinking, lol.

The headcrabs appearing everywhere things sounds fun except I might just make is Goombas everywhere, then again i'll probably go ahead and just make a Headcrab enemy.
And I might make it a button on the ground with a skull on it.

And the destructable ground dissapearing temporarily sounds like a good Puzzle type thing to add in there.

Well I thought it would be fun to hear other peoples ideas because my imagination only goes so far, so not at all!

Anyways, we could be of more help if we had some idea of what your game played like, how the co-op worked, what the tone is, complexity, et cetera.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I don't really care if it seems stupid, if you thought of something just tell me! I would really like to see what other peoples can think of because I want to have as many little hidden secret items in the game as I can think of, even if it does not effect gameplay, like if it changed the color of your char or gives you a helmet or something.

Different forms of Flud:
Rocket shooting you into the air
Propeler that makes you go fast
Hover pack
Water shooter
And missiles to fire

All of these should use a depleteable/refillable water tank

Out of all that the thing that caught my attention was "Rocket shooting you into the air", and i'm not sure if this is what you MEANT but I imagine something like a Rocket Jump type thing. And since I already have a double jump I could use it as a triple jump add on that can be optionally acquired depending on if you can find it or if you want to spend points on it or something.

Now that sounds very fun to create!

Thanks QuickPatch, random thoughts are exactly what i'm looking for XD.

I like the sound of having a spin attack, it would be cool to use that as a triple jump rather then the rocket jump thing, if I can get the graphics of it to look right...

It was not exact of what I meant, but exept for the blaster, they come as extra attachments in super mario sunshine.

When you said co-op, it gave me an idea that maybe Luigi could mainly be in charge of defensive items and Mario on attack items. Like Luigi could hold up a shield to take incoming fire and behind him would be Mario who could do a short jump and throw a bomb at the enemy or something.

Defense items:
Shield (some take more damage than others before they are destroyed)
Sticky bomb
Temporary force field
Temporary stealth

Attack items:
Bomb
Boomarang
C4

Other items:
Grappling hook
Bomb that makes enemies your allies for a short amount of time
Mirrors to redirect laser shots
Item to make them stronger so they can lift heavier blocks
Item to make them faster or slow down time
Item to reverse gravity
Pokeballs
Flying carpet
Mini go-cart
Mecha Yoshi robot, Luigi controls movements; Mario on attacks
Fusion earrings to combine Mario and Luigi into Marigi

Well i'm still not sure how I am going to make co-op work because I had it in mind to still make it a little competitive but in general you are cooperating, Making it so you can both collect coins and the game keeps a separate variable for Player 1 and 2 BUT at the moment when one player spends to open a door and get an item player 2 gets the item as well so I am still deciding on how I want to do it.

And my game already has bombs but they are not throw-able, that's a good idea.

Also you suggested an item that allow Mario and Luigi to lift heavier block, but they cannot lift any blocks at all yet but now I think I will add something like that because it sounds pretty cool. Then of-course adding in something like Golden Gauntlets like from Zelda OOT so they can lift heavier things.

And about the Fusion thing, I had thought about that one before and I am actually planning on making the whole fusion dance and everything so Mario and Luigi fuse together. It will be hilarious lol. Just gotta find out how I want the controls to work once they are fused... And I like the name Marigi btw XD.
