Hello :)

I've been making stuff with Game Maker for some time now but I've realized recently that I've never shared anything on here! So I figure I probably should :)

Perspective is a shortish platform game about a guy's quest to find something. A quest that's gone on so long he can't remember what he was looking for, just that he was looking.

Rubbish story aside, it revolves around warping the player's control between different characters, later on also essentially warping between level layouts.

I made this over a year ago for my final year uni project. There's a lot wrong with it and I'm trying to build a sequel/successor to fix all the wrongs. It did win me an internship which lead to my current job as a designer though haha.

Nice game! I've had so much fun playing it! It is also a challenge but not too hard :)

It has a very artistic approach, graphics are nice, music even better! Story is ok as it is, nothing defined, I liked it!

9/10

Big thumps up! Way up. This is a wonderfully made game. With the introduction, you create an interesting ambiance and mood that carries through as the game begins. The graphics are expertly drawn with appealing glow effects. And that eerie fog moving through in the background gives a sense of depth to the platform scenes. Great music too. It all works together.

These type of puzzle games are been done before, so your gameplay idea isn't unique. But you've implemented this idea very well.

I've just played a few levels to get a sense of the game, but I'll definitely continue this (especially since you have auto save built in.) Everything fits together beautifully, with great attention to detail.

Wow thanks a lot! Possibly the most praise I've had on it haha. I hope you have fun with the rest of it!

i can't play it because it uses the rest of the ram on my computer. i would use some external resources and load them in when they're needed instead of having everything in the exe.

Yeah it's pretty horribly optimized.

I've cut it down by like 200 mb in the sequel. Still working on the last 90 or so.

This was an awesome little game, I really enjoyed it.

I think you did a great job with the level design, introducing new elements at good intervals
and creating some nice puzzles. The whole atmosphere of the game was generally very nice
although it would have been nice to see some variation in the world. I found the collision box
of the sleeping player a little hard to jump from but other than that the platforming was solid.

I'd say the best part of the game was when you introduced separate platforms for each
perspective, it definitely made the game-play more interesting and helped it feel a little
more unique.

My only problems where I couldn't work out how to quit the game at the end, I had to use task manager. I also hate it when games don't scale in full screen mode. It feels like such a waste having big black bars around the game. That's more personal preference though I guess. ;)

Great job!

Great job!

What should happen at the end in the credits, is a flashing spacebar appears which takes you back to the main menu, you can quit from there. Odd if that didn't happen, but there probably are a big pile of bugs lurking around knowing how super well the code was put together.

Glad you enjoyed it :)

The next game has a much bigger focus on the 'separate platform' stuff, as you're right, that's kind of where it stands out.

Wow, I really liked this. It had a Lab 14-ish feel to it, but something more. The story didn't make sense at first, I was somewhat puzzled :P. In the end it all made sense. :) It was really good. 5/5 for sure. The originality in the level design was definitely amazing. The graphics, are so simple yet so good. The replay value I'd give a 3/5, only why it gets any replay value is cause now I'm curious as to what is behind the door with light behind it. :o

definitely going to recommend this to my friends.

Nice. Graphics, sound, and, most importantly, gameplay were all good. I do wish the text between levels could be advanced through quicker though. The level design was generally good, but occasionally felt a bit repetitive. I also wish they had been geared a bit more toward being difficult to figure out what to do, and then easy to do it, as opposed to vice versa, because it definitely is more of a puzzle game than a straight up platformer. In particular, a couple of the sections where you have to position people in midair felt too finicky to me. Still, that's largely a personal preference thing; it's difficult to get a mizture of that kind of stuff that will please everyone, and I was able to (and wanted to!) beat the game. I didn't really feel inspired to play it again though, but wish there was some easy way to jump back to the room with 2 doors- is there one?
Good job! Glad I played it!

Edit: Forgot to mention before, one small annoyance was that hitting the shift bar repeatedly on my, and many other peoples, computers, activates a rather annoying feature called sticky keys. I'd recommending avoiding that key in the future, or at least providing alternatives. Not a huge deal though

Thank you both! I'm glad there has been so much positive response to this little game. Leaves me enthused to work on the 'sequel' :)

It's also encouraging people are seeing similar problems and issues with the game as I have, meaning I am hopefully along the right lines with the plans I have to improve upon it.

Bill23 sums up perfectly my main issues with the level design of the game:

"I also wish they had been geared a bit more toward being difficult to figure out what to do, and then easy to do it, as opposed to vice versa, because it definitely is more of a puzzle game than a straight up platformer."

There are many 'execution heavy' elements of the level design and a few levels that feel to be somewhat 'filler'. Neither of these are really part of the 'vision' for the game so are amongst my prime concerns for fixing and improving.

Also the text between levels being slow to progress through leading players and even myself to just kind of mash buttons to get through it has already been solved in my new prototype, the story is delivered much more 'in flow' than it is at present.

Not being able to go back to the two door level was a rookie mistake on my part. The only way to really do this is to exit out of the game on that level so your save remains there, complete the game, then select continue.

Controls are another issue raised often. People seem to feel shift and space should be reversed. I'm still playing around with options on this front.

Bumpathump.

Just to quickly say my site has a nifty paypal button now. If you enjoyed playing through this game and think it was a decent half hour - hour of your time please consider aiding the development of Perspective 2 :)

There's a lot going on in my life right now and a lot of things vying for my attention and pulling me down different paths.

I would love to drop everything and focus on making games if it ever becomes financially viable. So if you think this little game has potential I would massively value and give credit to anyone who helps me to push it to its limits :)

If you don't want to part with hard earned moneys but still quite like this game and want to see it succeed, just playing it, talking about it, and telling people about it would help me out a lot! Please send and encourage others to send me as much feedback as possible! I want to know about everybody who plays the game and what their experience with it was like!

Thanks!
