Really, that's like condemning a human being for breathing. Companies are made to make money to their owners and stock holders. Games are made so that they can more efficiently and quickly get their hands in the money inside your pocket. Heck, if FPSs were popular, you can bet the market would be flooding with them- oh wait yeah that is totally what is happening.

That's why many companies try and fail so miserably to copy the World of Warcraft formula, so that they can get the piece of the action as well. They try it because it's the safest route to go, as it is treading a path that has been tested and proven very lucrative; they fail because Blizzard owns the scene, at least in the MMORPG category.
