I like your idea Rob, I think it could be good for our community if implemented right!

I hope this will be implemented... it seems like a pretty cool idea. Anyone agree?

This is a brilliant way to see more positive and helpful posts. By having awards that recognise peoples achievements, like the GMC JAM winners, or whatever, we'd be encouraging more positive content - and I think would be a great addition to the forum *IF* the awards conditions are properly executed. Avoid having X posts, X rep rewards, etc and we'll already be on a good direction to encourage positive and helpful content from the users in the forum.

If you're after some award-medal pixel art, I'd be down for spriting some.

What would be REALLY nice is if we could host a competition to see who can design the best awards graphics when this is implemented... The winner could even get his own special "I designed the awards!" award!!! Posted Image

Also a great idea, and I'd assume there wouldn't be just one winner - there would be loads of good submissions that we'd be able to collect for a variety of different awards. Although I think just seeing my sprite work being used as badges on the GMC would be an award enough for me :)

Any chance of getting an award for suggesting the system, giving a practical example and a well written post regarding it's benefits in a civilized and useful manner Mr. Nocturne? Posted Image

My only fears are, Mike talked about upgrading the forum software, however that particular awards mod hasn't been updated for the newer IP.Board code! Maybe another mod can be found? Or the files in that can be updated? This should be considered.

As regards to the actual award sprites, they should be very customizable! The image examples in the first post show off fat sort of mini-banners. But I believe they can really be anything!

I personally think 16x16 to 24x24 to pixel arts would be the best way to go about it.

However, that system is only good if the user can mouse over the award and see the description. Otherwise the sprites and their meanings could be confusing.

I agree here completely. I think the 16*16 or possibly 24*24, and the mouse-over description is the best method to go with. It's non obtrusive, shows the shiny badges and curious members can mouse over them to find out more.

Looks nice, I'd center the awards by the "Posted Image" plaque though.

Ah, you're right - I've edited the above picture so it should be centered to the member title.

It's a good design (The trophy icons were ripped from 64Digits for the mock up). It mostly benches on what is capable with the mod, though it looks moddable enough to handle it.

I wonder if we would just do general pixel art like that, or try to have "GMC Styled" graphics.

What about having little icons such as the pixel ones above but when you click on them a full sized icon appears? That would be interesting....maybe with 3d models too..

Yeah it might be a little reaching but it would still be cool to implement I think. Or have the icons darkly colored but on your mouse over they light up and give you a description.

Yes, that's exactly what I want, a group of dull, darkly coloured buttons.

I saw this reward system at Starmen.net.

It worked well there, hopefully it will work well here.

Yes, it looks like when I upgrade the software, I won't be able to do that particular plugin, which is a shame. But have a look out for others because I like the idea.
