If you're after some award-medal pixel art, I'd be down for spriting some.

Also a great idea, and I'd assume there wouldn't be just one winner - there would be loads of good submissions that we'd be able to collect for a variety of different awards. Although I think just seeing my sprite work being used as badges on the GMC would be an award enough for meWhat would be REALLY nice is if we could host a competition to see who can design the best awards graphics when this is implemented... The winner could even get his own special "I designed the awards!" award!!!

My only fears are, Mike talked about upgrading the forum software, however that particular awards mod hasn't been updated for the newer IP.Board code! Maybe another mod can be found? Or the files in that can be updated? This should be considered.
As regards to the actual award sprites, they should be very customizable! The image examples in the first post show off fat sort of mini-banners. But I believe they can really be anything!
I personally think 16x16 to 24x24 to pixel arts would be the best way to go about it.

However, that system is only good if the user can mouse over the award and see the description. Otherwise the sprites and their meanings could be confusing.

I agree here completely. I think the 16*16 or possibly 24*24, and the mouse-over description is the best method to go with. It's non obtrusive, shows the shiny badges and curious members can mouse over them to find out more.As regards to the actual award sprites, they should be very customizable! Ah, you're right - I've edited the above picture so it should be centered to the member title.Looks nice, I'd center the awards by the "
" plaque though.

I wonder if we would just do general pixel art like that, or try to have "GMC Styled" graphics.

Yes, that's exactly what I want, a group of dull, darkly coloured buttons.Or have the icons darkly colored but on your mouse over they light up and give you a description.
