Who's stupid idea was this? D:

I dunno, someone had the bright idea to render the entire point of reputation useless.
You can see my full thoughts here in the smartly placed Suggestion Box topic, where Nocturne rudely and with much condescension, closed the topic.

Well that's nice, he is treating me like a nobody.

Nocturne, do you know who created -1 rep?

Yes, the Flying Spaghetti monster.

Anyway, the question of responsability I find a bit hypocritical here... i don't remember anyone posting to complain that they were getting +1 Rep for their trolls? And let's face it, a LOT of really stupid posts get +1 rep just because they are funny, off topic, stupid or downright rude. So where is the outcry about that? And lets take this whole argument to the logical extreme and remove the ability to actually POST on the GMC as that will prevent people from posting pointless topics, or questions that have been answered 100 times before, or from posting troll posts etc etc etc...

Yes that's it!!! Lets just close the GMC because a few users are too immature to actually understand how valuable a tool it is and other users are too busy thinking of all the negative aspects of life to realise how much good actually gets done in 99% of the forum...

Honestly, do ANY OF YOU ACTUALLY LOOK AT ANYONES REP EXCEPT YOUR OWN? I don't. I don't go to answer someone's question and then think "hmm... lets see his rep as maybe he's not worthy of my answer" and those that do think like that are not going to last long here...

WARNING: NOCTURNE HAS BEEN DRINKING TOO MUCH COFFEE.

Honestly, way to overreact. Adding the ability to negatively rep does not help the GMC in any way shape or form. All it does is give users the ability to undo what other users have done. There won't be any highly repped or highly downvoted posts. That's why it's pointless to have +rep and -rep abilities.

Nocturne might be right...just close both forums and make anew?

I am reacting in the same way as everyone else in this topic. And I repeat... the rep system will work in 99% of the forums because the MAJORITY of users are mature enough to understand how to use it properly. And, I repeat again, what difference does it actually make? Answer that and we'll have a real discussion going...

Prove to me that the majority of users are mature. You're the only one who thinks that. What difference does it make, you ask? Well, it renders the entire point of reputation, well, pointless. Please, I'd rather have only the ability to negative rep a post than have the ability to do both. Having both just allows users to UNDO the good use of reputation other members have done.

If you really think it's a pointless discussion, then fold and change it back so where users won't be yelling at you all the damn time.

The proof is in the people that respond to the questions in the forum. Not including Spambots, we have an active community of a few tens of thousands, of which the majority do not post in either the Community, or the off-topic. Instead they are busy being helpful or being helped in the MAIN sections of the forum... there are your mature and responsible users, and they far outnumber those that are not.

We could drop the debate for now and just let the new system run for a month. I bet we could all make better opinions on whether down-ratings is useful or not if we just let people try it out over some period of time.

Nocturne, clearly you can't see my logic. I'll stop discussing this. What will be, will be. I don't have to be happy about it. I'll just pretend it doesn't exist, now that it's pointless.

You've gave people a new way to target users they dislike. I mean, if I dislike MotG, I could target his posts and -1 rep them. Eventually, our fragile MotG will surrender all hope and leave the GMC in shame.

But really, it neutralizes the entire point of the rep system. Of course I don't care how much or how little reputation a member has, but when I flick through topics, it's easy for me to see how many people agree with something and what counter-arguments there are against it. It's not the community's job to pick out spambots or trolls, we have the report button for that, so even your own reasoning for it doesn't make much sense.

We can slap each other's hands for negative behaviour by responding and telling each other why we disagreed with that behaviour, pretty much like MotG did in the other topic that was opened and while I disagree with it, I understand why he berated my comment because he saw it as a personal attack. You've added a useless feature and greatly underestimated the troll factor on the Internet.

Edit:
It helps to get my point across when I use the right words.

Edit:
Wow, I just got massively ninja'd. :ninja:

I think it could be useful if limited. How many posts worthy of a -1 are you going to find in a day? Surely less than +1. Limiting the number should allow it to be used properly and also keep people from going wild. If you have to -1 a lot of people, you're either a troll or crotchety and bitter! :medieval:

Calm down there! This feature isn't going to change our members here, it's just opening a pathway for the negative elements that are already part of our community.

Sigh... I do see exactly where you are all coming from, but none of you have addressed any of my points here. Why no outcry about +1 obvious troll posts? Why will this "undo" +1 reps? Are there more trolls on this forum than serious users that would make this so? Are you all so paranoid and rep crazy that it actually makes a difference to you? And in the forums that this feature is actually useful (Q&A, Studio, Games) it is a hell of a lot less likely to be abused. Also posting to "slap hands" in a topic that is not yours is really not fair on the OP as it distracts from their game or problem, so -1 a post is a better and more discreet way of showing disapproval...
