I am reacting in the same way as everyone else in this topic. And I repeat... the rep system will work in 99% of the forums because the MAJORITY of users are mature enough to understand how to use it properly. And, I repeat again, what difference does it actually make? Answer that and we'll have a real discussion going...
You've gave people a new way to target users they dislike. I mean, if I dislike MotG, I could target his posts and -1 rep them. Eventually, our fragile MotG will surrender all hope and leave the GMC in shame.
But really, it neutralizes the entire point of the rep system. Of course I don't care how much or how little reputation a member has, but when I flick through topics, it's easy for me to see how many people agree with something and what counter-arguments there are against it. It's not the community's job to pick out spambots or trolls, we have the report button for that, so even your own reasoning for it doesn't make much sense.
We can slap each other's hands for negative behaviour by responding and telling each other why we disagreed with that behaviour, pretty much like MotG did in the other topic that was opened and while I disagree with it, I understand why he berated my comment because he saw it as a personal attack. You've added a useless feature and greatly underestimated the troll factor on the Internet.
Edit:
It helps to get my point across when I use the right words.
Edit:
Wow, I just got massively ninja'd.
