@ blopit
I tried the r key and every other key on the board lol, sorry it never worked for me /:

@11clock
Sorry about not meantioning Yudhis I was paying a lot of attention just trying to find the games throughout the topic.

About your game play, that what I was trying to say. A lot of people will complain when they have to change the way they used the keyboard on platformers. Adding a bit of variety makes everyone happy. Like I said the critisism helps, now you know people will be more interested with a variety of controls.

About the atmosphere, I wasnt saying the dog and guy were different speeds, I was saying they were hard to control because they moved so fast which led to a lot more time being spent in one level. I wasnt saying this was bad gameplay, im saying this really ruined the atmosphere. After the 11th time in the same level the guy cant make it over a wall because hes moving to fast, it starts to lose its interest.

About innovation, yes I understand what your saying platformers are really getting hard to come up with new ideas, but you did it. The helping dog idea is something ive yet to see in a platformer. But everything else was the average platformer, pushing the box, using the buttons, dieing when you touch the spikes, I still liked it though.

Again I think you took the review offensively, but I hope you can work off it.

I didn't take the review offensively at all. I like hearing some criticism because it will keep me from making the same mistakes again. I was just a little confused.

Thanks from the review and I'm glad you liked it.

I know you guys worked hard on these games, and this review is the least I can do for your hard work! I hope your not upset with it, I tried my best. Please take the critisism in a positive and helpful way I really enjoyed each and every game. Thanks guys I had fun.

"The Gauls" by GS Games

Game Play : 6
Im pretty amazed with the amount of work you got done with in 3 days. You were able to squeeze fishing, wood cutting, and gathering into the game. It had a goal that was obvious and that was to defend your land. You had all the controls ready to go. The only thing about gameplay that really bothered me was how slow everything was. It takes soo long to get to the first wave and in the mean time all you can do is watch a guy chop a tree. And I cant stand how slow the screen moves, I never was able to find the battle.

Style / Use of Color Scheme : 4
You used the color scheme perfectly. The trees looked great, the water moved, the hub was a great add on, and you even were able to animate all the people, I was very impressed.

Atmosphere : 2
The Game had a great feel to it.. in the first 5 minutes. After that I really began to lose interest. It just takes to long.

Innovation : 0
This style game is nothing new, people in the medieval days collecting resources to defend against the empire thats on the way.

Polish : 2
Your game was very much polished up and ready to be played. I enjoyed it.

Rating : 14

"I Dont Even" by blopit

Game Play : 4
For starters I couldnt find any control information but I eventually figured out to use the wasd keys to move. When I messed up doing a puzzle I didnt know how to restart the game so I had to close the game and re-open it making no progress, I eventually got tired of doing that. The movement could have been better instead of jumping everywhere you went.

Style / Use of Color Scheme : 2
You used the color scheme well and it contrasted fine but nothing ever struck me as "wow" then again I didnt get to see much of your game for the restart problem I ran into /:

Atmosphere : 3
I could tell this game had some effort put into it, and im sure if I had been able to complete the game I would have ran into some nice challenges.

Innovation : 1
Its a puzzle game, theres been many of them, but you did add some of your ideas into it such as how to cross the river, which gave it its own uniqueness.

Polish : 0
Well, since the game wasnt finished I cant give it any score on polish /:

Rating : 10

"You Broke th Big Thing!" by Thatsnail

Game Play : 2
This was more like watching a movie more than playing a game. You couldnt walk and jump at the same time, or you atleast had to try for a while before you could. I dont really know what to say, I dont even know what that was all about.

Style / Use of Color Scheme : 2
Out of everything in this game I guess I liked the way you used the color scheme the most. It was classic.

Atmosphere : 0
I was confused the whole time.

Innovation : 2
That was defiently new to me.

Polish : 2
The controls worked, if this is what you were going for, then you polished it as it needed.

Rating : 8

"Galaxius" by Noah
I dont know if it was just me or what, but every colored pixel stayed where it went. The ship moved and it left a image of the ship every single place it moved. So I couldnt really see the game to move. So just to be fair in judging I wont rate this game incase I was having a technical problem.

"Stone Cold Emerald Eyes" by Turgon

Game Play : 4
You were aloud to jump, and shoot. The shooting wasnt as realistic as it could have been. The game was a bit glitchy when it came down to the shooting anyways, or atleast the reloading took a long time. I did like how addicting the game got to get further and further.

Style / Use of Color Scheme : 3
You got around a lot of trouble by simply making all the characters black, I liked it and hated it at the same time. I like the background movement and the added tumbleweeds.

Atmosphere : 3
You were going for a wild west game, and it felt like a wild west game.

Innovation : 0
It was a cowboy shoot'em up game, its been done plenty of times.

Polish : 2
Your game worked, the controls worked fine, the gameplay was good, its a finished game.

Rating : 12

"Emotitron" by 11Clock & Yudhis

Game Play : 6
It is a very smoothly put together platformer yes, but why couldnt the jump key up be the up key? why z? it added some complications not needed. Asides that the game play was great I love how you added that dog into it.

Style / Use of Color Scheme : 3
It was nice, I especially liked the background effect, but asides that everything was pretty normal.

Atmosphere : 2
I spent a lot of time in the same level, I knew what the goal was already, I knew how to get there, it was just a matter of whether the guy was going to move to fast or not.

Innovation : 1
This is a very average platformer, asides the dog, I liked that.

Polish : 2
You have a fairly nice and polished game.

Rating : 13

"Bow Tension" by Glassroadprogramming

Game Play : 3
I liked the idea of the game but the gameplay really could use some work. The arrows pointed left no matter where they were going. There was no skill to the game, nothing to be achieved, you werent punished if you missed. You just keep shooting and moving the bow until you hit it. And I cant stand having to move the screen with the keyboard that really should be automatic.

Style / Use of Color Scheme : 2
You used it fine, the graphics werent the best but I understood what it was most the time.

Atmosphere : 3
I did enjoy the game though, the guess and hit kept me entertained for a little while.

Innovation : 0
Ive actually seen a bunch of these arrow type games, where you shoot and try to hit the target.

Polish : 2
It works fine. The control works and its not glitchy. You have polished it.

Rating : 10

"Super Sheep from Mars" by $pecter
I got a .dll error. So I wont give this game a rating, sorry $pecter.

Are we supposed to judge our games like this? If so then I'll play the games and judge them now.

EDIT: 11clock how do you pass level 8 of your game? 'Cause I haven't played several other entries because I've been trying to pass that level!

It's a shame, but it looks like things have stalled here.

I would've picked Emotitron to win. Although it's graphics weren't as good as they could've been, I thought the puzzle design was very good and it was the only one I actually enjoyed playing.

Anyway, here is the source of my game (with the music removed) if anyone is interested:

The Game had a great feel to it.. in the first 5 minutes. After that I really began to lose interest. It just takes to long.

You can hold down the "Del"key or I think it was "."key to make the game run 5 times it's normal speed (I'm talking about The Gauls) And read the manual first time.
I made it in 3 days (I was busy) as I have said before. It haven't (and hadn't) got as many features as I wanted.

There wasn't any ships in the game and I had planed for 2 more types of resources to the game.

Here is a list of what I wanted to do:
  • Ships and seas to explore Islands.
  • Enemy AI and better animations for the Romans.
  • Different types of upgrades.
  • Procedurally generated game world.
  • Chests that could be found.
  • Animals.
  • Grow seeds
The game felt a bit boring in the end so I have stopped working on it. Here it is: http://sandbox.yoyog...00828-the-gauls

I am quite afraid to notify everyone that the first RGB comp was a total flop, don't get me wrong, the entries were all bloody brilliant, but due to certain family-related events (no one got hurt) I had VERY limited internet. I am hereby closing this topic and apologizing to everyone from the bottom of my heart, and hope that they will be able to forgive my foolish lack of ability to forsee the obvious coming of future events, I do however have complete hope of hosting another comp. This time I will be hosting it over my own site, and there WILL BE PRICES, let's hope that those last words got enough of your attention and have forced you to forget my mistake, well, if you're still reading, that excuse for an apology was a worth a shot. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet... I am joking, it's not other yet. There is one more thing you have to know... Davve is sexy, okay that's about it, just going to add some random text so people don't read that first.

TL;DR: I am an idiot, and I am sorry, there will be a more professional comp soon.
