Hex Wars is a game where the player has to conquer the whole map. To do so, they use their territories to attack other territories. Each block of land has “dice” on it, which are rolled to determine the outcome of any battles. The more dice that a piece of land has on it, the stronger it is. At the end of each turn, the player gains some extra dice depending on how many territories they have in total.

It can be played here: http://bit.ly/HexWars

This game is designed for mobile, but can be played on PC too (not Linux). What do you guys think? :)

Total development time was around 30 hours.

I liked it. It seems to be very similar to Dice Wars, but having it redesigned for a mobile screen is nice. I also prefer your visual style. I think the overall strategy is limited, but perfectly suited to mobile play. I'm surprised you didn't get a lot of interest from sponsors, it seems like the perfect mobile game. That said, I do have a few suggestions, take them or leave them:

I'm not sure if this is your website or me, but Chrome seemed to sit their for a while "Loading", but I didn't see the standard GM HTML5 loading bar. Eventually it would load, however. This might annoy some of your users, so you should get it fixed. I'm sure you know, but attention spans are pretty short for mobile games.

Some indication of which colour I am at the start. The game starts and suddenly things start happening, but I'm not quite sure what colour I am or where my territories are. If "Your Turn" faded in and out quickly at the start of my turn, that would help a lot too.

Leading on from this: better user feedback as to who's just won a battle. I think instead of outlining each territory if you lightly shaded the whole thing, you could clearly see who won a battle. In addition, you could tell everyone's territories more easily.

You mentioned high scores as a feature, but there doesn't seem to be a leader board or anything. Even having a "My Highest Score" on the title screen is really easy to implemented with an .ini file. Also, having a few different maps, or even randomly generating a map, would be awesome.

Hope this feedback helps,

Nicely done. This has great visual appeal, and a clean user interface. It seems well suited for a mobile game. +1

I was a bit puzzled by how the win/lose decisions are made, i.e., how much is based on dice number, and how much on randomness. Also, it wasn't clear how the extra dice are distributed (awarded) at the end of a turn. Maybe understanding that better would let the players use more strategy.

But a great start here. I'll be interested to see where it goes.

Thanks for playing, and for the feedback :)

I'd also like to mention that Hex Wars has so far made over $2000 in 2 weeks. In a few months I'll make a detailed blog post like I've recently done for my HTML5 sudoku game that details how the game performed.

Nice, although I absolutely suck at it XD

The graphics are really smooth, the only thing lacking is sound - which obviously isn't your fault, but it would add to the experience :)

I like it-- very nice! Very aesthetically pleasing and playable. As far as aesthetics, my only suggestion is adding some sound effects (representing clicking/selecting, maybe moving enemies, etc.), and some soft background music. As for features and playability, I like the game but you might want to work on replay value. I can play this over and over a few times but not sure how much. Possibilities include a score board, some social aspect, different difficulty options, or some sort of handicap to start with.

Anyways, great work!

Thanks guys! Sound is a big issue with HTML5 on mobile, but one day it might be ready for it :)
