New to mac use. Is there something I need to do on my mac to have it recognized via Studio on my windows machine in the Preferences tab.

I put the hostname, and username (there is no password) and hit Check Mac Connection but it does not find it.

On the mac I shared everything under Preferences - Sharing

My Mac can see and access all my windows machines and external drives.

The username and password need to be the ones for your user account on the Mac computer. The password is what you have to enter, for example, when authorizing one of the official Apple software updates on the Mac. At least, that's the username & password that worked for me.

Right, there is no password on my mac. There is only the username "user" - when I have to authorize something on the mac I do not put in a password.

My windows machines can access the mac and view files.

My mac can access all my windows machines except the one where studio is installed.

Edit: The problem was I had to create a password on my mac. Seems like something I shouldnt be forced to do for studio, but whatever.

I'm a bit late but I'd like to point out that this isn't a Studio problem, it's a unix requirement. If you want to do lower level stuff, especially using the terminal, you'll run into issues if you don't have an account password set. This is the sole reason I have an account password on Mac, and I set this up well before Studio was imagined.
