Well, the player doesn't do many actions moving left other than walk. The sprite xoffset should also be centered or something so you don't get that weird gap from switching directions. The presentation was nice, but the gameplay not so much. I would also recommend using a mask for collisions since the character can jump from a gun, and make the game have a one or two player mode. Games shouldn't force having an extra human player to play (since using half a view is a bit annoying).

Here are some things I noticed in addition to smash ball's comments:

- When starting out in the storybook the first thing I noticed was your "Billy Jean" midi playing in the background. Try choosing a different, less recognizable song because I found it really distracting.
- The right-facing (default) sprites for the characters look fine, but the left-facing ones need a bit of transparency cleanup around the edges.
- The characters need to be able to shoot left, not just right. Also, while playing the character that uses the arrow keys, I can move faster than my own bullets.
- The collisions need a lot of work.

On last thing, please post some screenshots of your game. People are much more apt to give it a try if they can get a sneak peek first. I can tell that your team is working hard on this project, so keep it up.
