Hey guys. At our college computers my game works fine. I put it onto a USB stick, put it onto my laptop and now everything still works fine apart from one problem - the background starts to just mess up about 3/4 of the way through my first level. It is still playable but it is annoying. I have taken my memory stick back into college, and run the game of my stick there and it works once again, is it something wrong with gamemaker 8.1 lite on my laptop?

I don't need to edit my 1st level what so ever so that doesn't concern me, what does concern me is that i am making my 2nd and 3rd levels on my laptop. So if i do them on there and then take my memory stick into college and put them on there, will i get the same problem that i have had with seeing my 1st level on my laptop - but reversed?

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, but i hope you understand.

post a screen shot of how it's messing up. Might help determine the problem.

See the grey line in the background? That was originally just a normal cupboard, and it just stretches until the end of the level... then i go to the start of the next level and that is fine. As i also said when i try this level at college it works without problem and looks normal. Just seems to be on my laptop. So i'm wondering if it's really a problem at all, and it's just a visual problem on this laptop?

could be an issue with your laptop, but you say the background works fine on the next level. Does the next level have the cupboard as well or is it a different background all together?

No, the next level is a different background entirely. Also the cupboard is just a part of the background, and once it reaches that cupboard in the level the only thing that remains from that point on in level 1 is the long grey line, the other background features go after that point too. It is very weird, but i assume it's just my laptop as it works at college. You don't think i would have the same problem if i worked on level 2 and 3 at home then played them at college do you?

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on there. Unless your background just gets too involved for your graphics card to handle after a certain point. But even then I don't see why your sprites would still be showing.
upload what you have (compiled) and link it and I can see if it does it on my computer.

if you haven't already done so make an account at the Sandbox and upload your game as a work in progress and then when it's up on your account just post us the url link.

for whatever reason I just don't like mediafire. I find it hard to trust that what I'm downloading is what I'm told I'm downloading. Never had any bad experiences with it. It's an irrational fear no doubt but none the less it is a fear I have. On the hand I have just as much of an irrational trust in the sandbox.

You need to tell it to draw a black background. You must have "Draw Background Color" disabled. This causes someother objects to 'drag' as you see. Try it.

EDIT: I forgot to note that you may need to use an actual background that is black if this does not work. On lower-end computers "Draw Background Color" like to fail. I know cuz I tried to play my game as a show-and-tell at my school.
