Gahh! I wrote a long topic for this before but then my internet froze and I lost it all! Oh well, it's worth the time.

Anyway, I have a list of suggestions for the Sandbox that I would like you guys to read :)

I know YoYo Games doesn't have much time on their hands, so I have tried to limit my suggestions to ones that are possible given how busy YoYo Games is

1. Removing the old instant play feature.

Reasons:

- It's useless and obsolete
- Since it doesn't serve a purpose, it's just an unnecessary drain on the servers.

2. Redesign.

Reasons:

- The old design is boring, and, well... old :P
- A better looking website encourages more members and visitors
- I'm tired of looking at that lame design from 2007 :/
- It wouldn't be too hard, just use the same CSS style sheet as the GMC, and then modify it a bit.

3. Link to the GMC

- On the Sandbox currently, there is a link to the old YYGF.
- Since there is no need for this anymore, how about just automatically redirect to GMC
- This could be done in the redesign.
- Another way to link to the GMC is to allow a user to put a link to their GMC account (if they have on) on their profile.

4. Allow users to upload HTML5 games.

- More of a reason for members to go there.
- More games for visitors to play.
- The Sandbox should be kept up to date with the newest form of online gaming

If you have any other suggestions, post in this topic and I will add them here if I think they are worth mentioning and are not too far-fetched.

As stated before, I know YoYo Games are frequently busy with GM:Studio and other things, but an update of the Sandbox would boost the experience of their main customers, users of the GMC.

It would create a helpful and comfortable online environment. They would get help with their games and talk about game development here in the GMC, and then upload their games and play other's games on the Sandbox. Then they would post about those games here, and a member would see that post and go play that game on the Sandbox. Then said member would return here and post about the game. It creates a loop of good game development and discussion.

Of course, such an environment already exists, but I have noticed that some members on the GMC upload their games to websites such as MediaFire and other file uploading sites. If the Sandbox was updated, it would encourage members here to post their games there, and boost fore-mentioned environment.

Thanks for taking the time to read this  Please do not pass this off as a noob expecting too much from YoYo Games. These are my legitimate suggestions that I sincerely believe will benefit the Sandbox and it's users, as well as users here. I have also taken into account the position YoYo Games is in as to the limited amount of time they have to deal with requests like this. I learnt that the hard way while on the YoYo Games Forums.

Who uses Sandbox anyway? Cryset ftw.

Despite the fact that your post was pretty trollish, it proves one of my points. Members in the GMC use other uploading sites, and it would be best if all are kept in the one centralized location. An update of the Sandbox would help make this happen

Anyone have a non-trollish comment on my suggestions?

There were a total of ten games uploaded today, and many more in the previous days. There are still many who use the Sandbox.

I used sandbox, and true, it does need a new design to be up to date with yoyogame.com and the gmc forums. The instant play feature is, as you said, useless and does need to be removed and can be replace with html.

Here is what mike.dailly ( an administrator) has said.

We are planning a revamp at some point, but not in the immediate future. So don't hold your breath, but baring commercial realities, it is coming........ one day.

Yes, but I'm sure there were others uploaded in other places. Of course, Sandbox will never be the ONLY place people upload games, but it would be good for the one that is actually associated with YYG themselves to be the best one

Glad to see you agree with my suggestions. Also, I didn't know they were planning a revamp. Hopefully my suggestions and any ones other users request for me to add here should be helpful :)

Ah. Looks like everything I've suggested but better. Also, the idea to change the name of Sandbox is pretty good :) And the ability to re-rate games once the version is updated - but ony once updated since your last rate - otherwise people would just spam/troll a game's ratings.

Anyway, good to see there's planning in progress for the update :)

A re-design would be good though anyway. You don't need to care about market conditions to change the CSS of a website :turned:

My idea? Not only just let HTML5 users upload, convert all games into HTML5 for the website. No more buggy Instant Play and no more people going off to knockoffs like GMArcade to get their game online and instant play without having to pay for a server.

That would involve editing someone elses game. Possibly, without their permission.

Better organization. Their should more catagories. Like Nintendo or engine. It would make finding something easier.

1. Isn't that what you are doing now with NN2?
2. While I do agree with this, the two that you suggested I don't. Utility is for engines and Nintendo isn't a genre. It's a company.

I think people should have to pay a fee of £1 to upload games to the sandbox as a one time payment, one time payment, £1. You can also pay for other accounts. If you don't pay your account is wiped. Why? I think it would heavily improve the content on there. And it is the most effective way of ensuring that all the cheap Catch The Clown games are gone and that all the good games remain, not some, all. I'd be willing to pay a lot of money to keep a lot of accounts open.

I'd imagine that would be a lot easier than having the staff trawl through all the bad so-called-games and delete them.

And it's money for YYG. Which is a plus for them.

I enjoy the bad games.. Some of them are so bad it's hilarious.. Quite entertaining. (No offense to anyone, we've all been there  )

Also, some of the lower quality games are actually pretty good, or have something really good about them.. I like to study those ones to advance my knowledge in game design.

Also, studying the bad games is pretty helpful too, so you learn what not to do and become aware of common mistakes to avoid and watch out for.

Then you could pay a few pounds to keep a few accounts open. Simple as that.
