My team is composed of Kanto/Sinnoh/Hoenn pokemon with only 1 Unova dragon type pokemon. I think the Gen V pokemon are pretty ****, tbh.

My Gen V team is mostly composed of old gen Pokemon: Blastoise, Charizard, Gardevoir, Lucario, Fraxure, and then Mystery Gift Darkrai. I found I easily tore through the main game without much difficulty using those guys, so the Gen V's can't be that overpowered? Unless we're speaking of Legendaries?

But you can't catch previous gen pokémon until after the main storyline in black and white unless you trade, so presumably that's what made it easy? :P

Huh? They banned Blaziken? Why would they ban a starter? Is he that overpowered? I didn't feel Gen V pokemon are that strong.

Smogon banned it. The community of uber turds that ruin all the fun. I don't understand why people want to play in "tiers" and abuse the same pokémon in online battles all the time. It gets incredibly boring. I play with my favourites just as I did against my friends when I was little, if that means I lose more often than other people I'm not really bothered...

I'm with daman. As many people claim that the Gen V Pokemon suck, there are several extremely strong ones in it.

I think people are usually referring to them aesthetically (like the vanilluxe line and garbodor). Personally I don't mind if the design is based really closely on an animal or some inanimate object.

I first got Pokémon red when I was 5... so I've been playing pokémon 14 years now. Still get at least one game every time a new gen comes out and I can't wait for B/W2. :D

I have competely forgttton about the anime's openning, that' is pretty good.
I never really thought Blaziken should have been banned but with it's Dream World ability (Speed Boost) it got fast awfully quickly and had the power to boot.

Playing in tiers lets you use your favourites better. I like Emboar and Charizard but they can't really compete with the likes of Latios, so I play a tier where they are be used, and used well.

Trouble is when you're playing random match-up free mode on the DS games you can't define tiers to the other player... So you either always (boringly) play OU, or try to win with your favourites. And it's epic when you do. In fact, playing "weaker" pokémon can sometimes be an advantage as people don't know how to handle them. One of my favourite pokémon is Sableye (even before they gave it a dream world ability) and a lot of people didn't know how to counter that. He helped me win quite a few battles even though his stats are crappy :D

I had them traded to me as eggs and/or newly hatched Pokemon, more or less around the time I got to the third gym. It took me a looong while to evolve them all and get them up to scratch. Especially Gardevoir, the Ralts line is a pain to evolve.

Lucario I got through the Dream World, at Lv. 10.

Yeah, there's nothing like Pokemon. We should have a link battle... my B/W team would trounce yours (as long as they're similar levels...). :P

Which reminds me, does anyone here have the Gen III starters available for trade to my Gen IV carts? I breed Eevees and Gen I/IV starters! :D

I have loads of GenIII starters from repeated play throughs of the games + a ton of breeding and transferring, I could perhaps trade some over. I'd have to actually find out which cart they are on though.

Let me know. I'm mising Gen II and Gen III starters on my Gen IV cart, I've decided I wanna slowly complete my Gen IV Pokédex before I even attempt Gen V. :P

I think have most of Gen2 as well. I definetly have a bazillion Totadile with Shadow Claw since I bred it for a friend. I'll have a look at somepoint this week.

Pokemon means a lot more than a series or an anime to me, it's my first game, it was a real RPG and a craze that let my generation (of people) dream. Nothing is ever going to replace it, nothing is ever going to live up to it and I'm never going to forget any of the 151 names.

That said, Nintendo seems to be intent on destroying that magic. Gen 1 is magical, Gen 2 I can live with (mostly because of their ease in, due to their appearances in the Gen 1 stage, and they're actually alright) but anything after that just looks like Nintendo selling their souls to me.

I played Yellow back in the day and then I enjoyed Gold. Then it just got stupid and I stopped caring. too many of the things and too many gimmicks. Yellow and Gold were awesome though.

There's another Beast in NU that isn't used much. Choice Specs Solar Power Charizard in Sun which can actually 2HKO The entire tier at the least and OHKO most of it. Blissey is like the bulkiest special wall in the game , though not in NU here's a calc to show how much damage this thing brings.

Actually Eviolite Chansey is technically the best special wall, heck, it can even take physical hits much better than Blissey.

Although Blissey is better due to Leftovers recovery to nullify weather damage, and attacks outside of Seismic Toss that can be complimented with Calm Mind (though all the overpowered fighting types introduced in 5G would make it hard to set up).

I used to love this series, but I stopped loving it after Diamond and Pearl. They've run out of ideas for pokemon, yet they continue to make new pokemon games.

In my opinion, they should just start remaking the old games. It will appeal to older audiences who want a nostangia value, and it will also appeal to the younger generation of pokemon fans, because they've never played some of the more original games. Especially if they limit the number of catchable pokemon to the original 150 or 300. They can even sell it for less money if they're afraid the game won't sell with less pokemon, but trying to catch 648 pokemon is beginning to be cumbersome.

Amen to that! I'm still waiting for a RSE remake. Or, like, a fricking console version. Now that would be sweet.

That's not the objective anymore... notice that they threw away the slogan "gotta catch 'em all" back in Generation III.
And you can always complete the regional Pokédex rather than the National one. Or just not even attempt it at all... no reason to completely remove like half the Pokémon in the game for the people who do want a wider selection (or are up to the challenge of completing the massive Pokédex).

Also you could argue that it's actually easier to catch most of the 600+ Pokémon these days than it was to catch the 150 back in the days of Red / Blue.
For one thing, there's online trading (although it really needs to be improved). That alone expands your ability to trade with just about anyone in the world with a game and access to wifi, whereas back in Generation I you needed to find someone in-person, literally connect the link cable, and trade that way (although it wasn't really a problem, at least not where I lived, since literally everyone around played the game).
For another thing, breeding. It didn't exist back in Red / Blue so obtaining the starters / Hitmonlee / Hitmonchan / Eevee evolutions / Kabuto / Omanyte / possibly others was a lot more difficult since players were less willing to actually trade them away unless the trade was done for the sole purpose of completing the Pokédex.

Now think about a remake consisting of only 150 Pokémon... assuming that they keep the new trading technology and allow breeding then completeing a Red / Blue remake these days would be a piece of cake.

But I agree, they should make some more re-makes. Especially Generation III (including the Generation I remakes since I never got to play FireRed and completely missed out on the Sevii Islands) because GBA games are not playable on any DS past the DS Lite which isn't even manufactured anymore. What I'd really like would be a port of all 5 generations available through the Virtual Console, but with the added features of trading over wifi.

The pokemon series has fallen to ruins. Gen. 5 is awesome but the pokemon can be ugly... I hope pokemon conquest can be a revival pill, but I try to play more Brawl and RPGs these days. My first pokemon game, pokemon yellow was challenging yet fun, but the newer black and white are so easy that I just can't have fun with it. My Starmie can kill almost everything in one hit, just with EV training that I did. It just is really sad.

I don't think Gen III should be redone. It's my favourite in the series *because* it's gorgeous looking and yet there's no 3D crap going on. It's all nice, lovely, beautiful 2D pixel art.

Oh, I remember Brock was IMPOSSIBLE to beat in Yellow, due to Pikachu being an electric type. I remember I only defeated him after a million Sand Attacks and some well placed tackles from my Pidgey.
