Ok.. Let me start by saying that I own every American Mega Man Release we have* and even two Japanese import versions.
So going into this I was already knowing I would be critical about it. Work in progress allows me to overlook a lot of things, such as the lack of boss pictures and the lack of enemies. Clearly this is a technical demonstration.

So first off
Controls:

Control was Smooth enough and responsive enough. I didn't notice if you had the moon walk glitch so I assume you didn't. What I did notice that irked me was Control layout. X to jump, S to dash and Z to fire. If I may, perhaps C to dash would fit better so that you don't have to lift a finger upwards to dash in a fast paced situation. Just my thought. Overall however the controls felt like Mega Man X. So good job there.

Graphics:

Reused graphics are fine for a fan game so no complaint. I did notice the sprite doesn't flash different colors when charged, but I can imagine this being an early engine you plan to implement that. A few times when jumping off the walls he would fall in his standing sprite and not his falling sprite. Not a big thing, just something to watch for.


Did it feel like a Mega Man Game?

It certainly wants to. The scrolling was a bit choppy, but that could be my machine doing that. You certainly got all his actions in there. Dashing, wall jumping (I was most impressed by this) and dynamic charging (charge shot is bigger the longer you charge). It is all there and I hope to see this go further. There was something I noticed when the character was sliding down walls he wasn't actually touching the walls. This is just a masking detail I'm sure.

Overall

I think you're putting some real effort into this and that it has good potential. You will find as you know me that I'm not big on fan games because I feel like one should focus on their own creations rather than make a new installment of someone else. However I feel like if you're going to go through the trouble of a fan game then you should definitely put forth the effort to make it feel like what you're making and make it just as good if not better than the official product, which you seem to be on track for doing.

Keep it up. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

*does not include the battle network games or star force games: This reviewer does not acknowledge those games as part of the Mega Man series.

Tried the demo, and looks promising, you should improve the platform engine a bit: the background/view gets updated *before* the update of the player position instead of after, and sometimes when sliding/jumping in this point:

and hitting the ceiling several times you fall with the standing animation instead of the jump animation.
Also, the camera snaps abruptly on the player after the teleport.

But I understand this is an early prototype so probably you were already going to fix these small imprecisions Posted Image

now you are able to
make 3 single shots
select the 2nd stage.

Revamp.

Everything has been fixed and tested,There's a trouble by dashing and falling,I'm working on it. :sweat:
Sounds added.

it's coming together now. the engine feels a bit more smooth. You also got him to touch the wall during the wall cling when facing left but I noticed when facing right he still sits a bit away from the wall. I had a similar issue with an unfinished game I was working on with a wall kick. never did fix it by the time I had abandoned it. Keep it up man. I like what I see.

I've been a fan of Megaman X games ever since. I tried making a fan game, but however, I failed. Take a look at it: Megaman X: Velocity. The controls are great, you can play as X and Zero, but I refused to complete it(had lag problems). I don't have much resources either(bosses, new characters, osts... etc). This is why, it will be difficult for you to make a MMX fan game(It took me 2 years in editing krw703's MMX engine, improving the physics, adding Zero, enemies.. etc). I'm not telling you to give up, I'm just telling you what I have experienced so far. :thumbsup:

Anyway, I played your game(the one with Zero that is). The controls need to be improved, you need to add tiles, backgrounds, enemies... etc(I know it's WIP, but the game is pretty empty itself). However, I liked the health bar! :smile:

Anyway, I played your game(the one with Zero that is). The controls need to be improved, you need to add tiles, backgrounds, enemies... etc(I know it's WIP, but the game is pretty empty itself). However, I liked the health bar! :smile:

Regarding custom bosses does this mean that we will be able to make our own selectable bosses, enemies, stages, stage select, weapons etc. or no?

I fixed the pixelation problem and I've added a new subweapon.
There aren't screens but the game has been updated.
D & C to change weapons,and you're able to change those controls.

Well...I was thinking alot of your post and I have tried to port my games to joystick,before...but I will try again,I'm working on a joystick converter which may work :thumbsup: .
