I've noticed that a lot of users here are teenagers. Some are adults as well, but a lot of us are young. Just a thought.

Why do you think it is that these forums appeal to a such a young demographic?

We decided to create a poll to see what age group is most popular on the GMC:

How old are you now: http://poll.pollcode.com/njhj

How old were you when you joined: http://poll.pollcode.com/awy4

Well, typically video games are played by kids and teenagers. Also, a lot of kids and teenagers think "If I were making this game, I'd change this," so quite a lot of them probably Google something along the lines of "how to make a video game for free." Next thing you know, they've downloaded Game Maker lite. Since they didn't expect to actually have to learn anything to make a game, they sign up her so we can do the work for them, or so they think.

Typical noob story I think. :P

I got into game creation by literally typing "game maker" into Google.

Haha same! Ironically enough, after making games, I started making websites to put my games on and for game-related stuff. And that's how I got into web-design. It's quite a funny story to me :P I really appreciate the noob me sometimes XD

Hm, average age huh? I'd hazard a guess of around 15 to 18.

Yeah I would say that if you did a mean average, it would be 18, because you need to factor in both the adults and the teenagers :)

I'm guessing that the median and mode would be lower, though.

The average gamer is 37 years old and has been playing for 12 years. Eighty-two percent of gamers are 18 years of age or older.

just thought i'd leave that here.

also for this site, i've noticed from looking at a lot of members ages and the common trends here, that the average is probably from 15~21. i have been using GM since i was 15 and i am now 20. so i still fit in lol

Make this topic a poll. With extremely varied ages. And inequalities, like >20 or something.

I used to think that the average age was around 16-20. Then we started getting an influx of new members who were 12, 13, 14...

Only mods can make polls.

@MOD: Make a poll so we can work out the average age!

Well, game maker is so good you don't have to learn a lot for basic games, and have to learn a little for more advanced.

they sign up her so we can do the work for them

I also doubt anyone is so stupid to ask that, except of 2 or 3 exceptions from hall of fail lol (Check 2 creates sig, general chat and try to find hall of fail lol)

Seems so far that 15-20 is the most populated age group.

Probably the reason that GMC is filled with younger people is because of the nature of Game Maker and GML. It's easy to use so it appeals to inexperienced programmers (and experienced programmers, although experienced programmers are more likely to use a more powerful language or one that gives more freedom).
Typically younger people are less experienced, so there you have it.

What you have to consider when thinking about these things is that a lot of members here are somewhat veterans, I'd easily say the vets here push our average up to around 24-26ish, however, that was before all you gamers came flooding in from the YYGF, I'm still not too sure what to make of you lot...

Oh, don't mind us, we're very nice people

Just don't expect most of us to venture very far beyond the Off-Topic forum :P
