NEW UPDATE::: CONTROLS SWITCH - CHECK THE F1 MENU IN GAME Machines 2.2

I like to think of this game as a crossover between The Terminator, DeadRising, and Prototype. The result was the creation of the Machine's World.
The reason I am posting this is because I would like to receive feedback before starting anything huge in the game. So, an early thanks to those who send feedback

GAMEPLAY:

Controls (Default):
WS - Move Up/Down
AD - Turn Left/Right
Mouse - Aim
RMB - Spool Minigun / Toggle Ally Follow
LMG - Spool Minigun / Shoot
Mouse Wheel - Change Ammunition Type
Arrow Keys - Equipment

I wanted to interpret different styles of gameplay into one. In the game, you take the place of a captured machine (Idea from Terminator) that is used because it is safer to send a machine into the battlefield than soldiers. But another goal is going to be to bring back lost soldiers to HQ (Idea from Deadrising). So the player is to travel a massive world, complete missions, upgrade itself, and complete tasks (Ideas from Prototype).

Another feature I added was the aggro feature. Enemies won't realize that you are a threat until you attack them or you are around them for too long. I may also add a few more features to add aggro to the character. I plan on making areas on the map in which aggro is constantly up if in enemy sights. The aggro level you are at is represented by the circle on the bottom right side of the screen. If the circle has a red dot in the middle, it means that an enemy suspects that you are a threat. If the circle is white, it means that you are safe, if it is red, it means that they know you are a threat, if it is blue, you have evaded the enemies. Moving while it is blue will change it back to white.

Another thing to mention is that pressing the right mouse button on friendly characters will sometimes allow them to follow you.

Remember that in order to shoot your weapon, you must spool the minigun up by holding down the Mouse Button. If you want to use equipment, then select it using the arrow keys before shooting.
----------------------------

ENEMIES:

One thing I am really trying to focus on in this game is how intelligent enemies are. How they navigate the map will be important, and how they recognize the player will be even more important. I want each enemy to have a different feature about them. No two enemies will be the same. Different ammo types will also do different damages to enemies with the regular bullet being neutral damage.

----------------------------
If you made it this far in the post, I would like for you to try my work in progress game. Right now, I have, 1 type of solder, 3 types of ammo, 1 equipment, 2 types of enemies, a bit of scenery, a well working engine. !Thanx in advance!

I can tell you put some effort into this... but I couldn't play it very long. The movement/shooting/change-up controls were just too difficult. They work as designed, but I found them overly complex and very difficult to use. And for some reason I couldn't shoot more than once. But maybe that's just me, because I don't play many games like this.

The graphics were OK, but they were a bit simple and could use some work (primarily the backgrounds). And playing field seemed overly large, and mostly empty space. The background music is pleasant to listen to... but it doesn't fit a battlefield-type game like this. It seems too sedate and a bit sad.

I like that you had the HELP page. I kept having to refer to it to remember the control options. But what the heck does "aggro" (aggroed) mean?

Not bad.. not bad.

I have to say that the game controlled very smooth. Graphics were both simple and yet they clearly showed what you were looking at. It wasn't just a jumble of pixels that was supposed to be a land mine or a solider. It all looked very well. I won't comment on sound or music as this is a WIP.

Your engine is solid. which is more than I can say for a lot of games I have played My one complaint; and this is one I have with almost every game on this site... it does not cater to those of use who still like to use the arrow keys to move. I understand there is a large group of players that like using the letter keys but I've just never moved on and there are plenty of me out there.

Since this is a WIP clearly in its early stages I can still hope that perhaps in a later version hopefully won't have to wait too long we will see some sort of option to toggle between the two different styles of control.

Overall good game. I gave you a four. For an early stage concept you did some serious work. I'll be watching this game.

I'm going to keep referring back to this post in order to make the game easier to play for others.
Although you don't like some of the things I added, I do have to explain why some things are as they are
  • "And playing field seemed overly large, and mostly empty space" - This is because I was trying to get a fallout style game. To be honest, I was actually going to make the map a lot larger and still plan to do so. I will add more scenery though and fill up the empty spaces
  • The background music - thanks for the heads up. This is something I through together quickly as a twenty second song, but even that, it doesn't fit the game. I may possibly keep it for a randomized background playlist though. We'll see
  • "But what the heck does 'aggro' (aggroed) mean?" - Aggro is the capability of enemies knowing where you are and who to attack. It is still in progress, but the extra characters such as the soldier will also have aggro. Therefore allowing the player to use the soldiers as a distraction for the enemies

Your engine is sold. which is more than I can say for a lot of games I have played My one complaint; and this is one I have with almost every game on this site... it does not cater to those of use who still like to use the arrow keys to move. Thanks for the good feedback. I will keep the original controls that I have now, but I may possibly add a control switch feature for players like you. That way you can play with the arrow keys instead of the WASD controls

"Your engine is sold. which is more than I can say for a lot of games I have played" - thanks for the comment

Also as a quick notice - if the game runs slow on your computer try these things
  • Exit off the internet or any other applications
  • turn of the game's blood effects - Press 0 on keypad (Update - Press 2)
  • run the game in windowed mode - Switch with F4
