I made a Nazi Zombies clone with Game Maker for my senior project. Just talking about GML and using a lot of "fancy lingo" like "sprites" "objects" and "surfaces" makes for a very easy, very impressive presentation. Also the game that I made was super sick. (X I'm going to present today at 1:40, so wish me luck (:

For my learning goals I just talked about 1) animation, 2) programming, and 3) distribution. The third learning goal was literally just uploading the games to Yoyogames and Gamejolt

Anyways I was just curious to see if anyone else had used GM for their senior projects- I had a lot of fun doing the project and it turned out to be a really good way to get motivated to actually FINISH a game.

Never heard of a senior project so I have no idea if using GameMaker for it is an acceptable thing or whatnot. We did do what ended up being referred to as a Multimedia Project for our school but we refused to hand it over when they stopped the publishing of the yearbook.

That works! Posted Image At my school, at least. But at best, it would still be a supplement, not a standalone for the project.

Yeah just rocked the presentation haha. I live in Ferndale, so the community members grading it were pretty old and 0 computer savvy. They were very impressed (:

You'd have to learn/do more for your senior project? like what? According to my school standards just making a game was going above and beyond expectations- (again I live in a city called Fern-Dale) (X I had a friend who I taught game maker do the same thing and he passed with flying colors too. Thanks Mark Overmars/GM team!

I had a vague chat with my sponsor when I did my project, and she basically said no. Of course some people simply were tasting food at different restaurants, so I don't know why my project would have been any worse.

I think I needed to do a better job of explaining what my goals were and how I was going to get there. People should keep that in mind if they want to do a project like this. A lot of teachers are skeptical unless you can sell them on what you are trying to do.

I think it's awesome though that you got to do this, must have been a lot of fun compared to some projects.

For our senior project, it's a presentation+an interview w/ a current member of the profession. The presentation can include the game, but must also include a bunch of other info as well. Posted Image I go to Arcadia High School. So effing competitive there. Posted Image

Thanks! Yeah I really had to clarify what my learning goals were. If you phrase it in the right way it sounds really legit. (not that it's not haha) We didn't have to have sponsors at our highschool though, we just had our English teachers and a few others (my "advisory team") approve my project and action plan.

This year was the first year we didn't have to have mentors, or what at your high school might be the sponsor? or maybe interview with the professional? Yeah, apparently this year was actually a lot less strict than other years in Washington. (state)

I had a power point, including a few diagrams of how the lighting and AI engine work, and some pictures of the game, and a short exhibition of the game at the end. The presentation itself took very little practice/preparation just because I knew and did so much about/with the game that I could speak candidly for minutes on end.

Since I was in the IB program, I didn't have a senior project, but for the 50 hours of creative work that I needed, I simply presented the timelapses of my two most recent Ludum Dare entries made with GameMaker, whilst explaining how they were made (using buzzwords of course). It did not take much effort at all and it worked well :D

Here's some smallified pictures of them...

So, yeah... not very complex at all...

Nice, Time-lapse is a nice touch I didn't think of that. (:

Playing right now ;)
Good job on finishing a game, I never manage to have enough motivation to completely finish any of my games.

The game needs some music and some zombie noises, like before a wave their should be some zombies groaning to signal the next wave perhaps.

Nice thanks! Yeah the whole senior project thing really helped motivate me to follow thru and finish it.
I decided not to use music in the game, to keep the file size down, but I agree zombie noises at the beginning of the wave and stuff would be a nice touch- I'll keep it in mind for my next update. (:
