And while yes - I can see your point of view on avoiding ambiguity between this and other game development forums, I always liked the name Game Maker Community because it is a self explanatory name to my non-game designer friends.
I also haven't really seen many problems with people misinterpreting this forums subject under the current name.
My thoughts on the current titles.
YoYo Games Community - sounds nice when said outright, but makes an awkward to pronounce initialism. YYGC isn't nearly as easy to say as GMC.
YoYo Game Maker Community - well, I think the main problem with this one is that while the initialism would probably end up as GMC, the company isn't called YoYo Game - it doesn't really sound right.
I think the best thing the GMC's title had going for it was that it was 3 words.
For example - if the forum were to be called the "YoYo Comunity" - you'd get the nice initialism of YYC ( I know it's actually two words), YYGC - simply doesn't roll off the tongue nearly as well.
So with that in mind - I would be much happier if the length of the initialism could be 3 letters.

(emphasis added)As I've said before though.... it really will "just" be the banner, the web link will stay, as will the forums that we currently have - so where's the harm....really?
The harm is that it'll piss a group of people off, that's about it.

After GMNext or your next big project, you could bring back a new Instant Play 'sandbox' system.
That is what I would personally do.

And where's the harm in just leaving the name as it is?

Honestly, can't think of any harm. Hmm...

It's fair enough - I do understand why you'd want to do it. It's just that I think the community revolves more around GM, and although they may be happy to discuss YYG in general, the program itself is the main focus. Doesn't really bother me thoughBecause it doesn't. These are the YoYo Games community forums. Lots of things other than GameMaker are discussed here, from gaming, marketing, or design, to education, team building and asset creation . It'll also start to discuss other aspects of the site, and we have more plans for other features going forward.
Why change the name if GMC describes the forums so much better?
So not only doesn't "GameMaker Community" not do the forums justice, but we need newcomers to know they are at the official forums. There are lots of GameMaker forums out there, and nothing to say this isn't just another one.
As I've said before though.... it really will "just" be the banner, the web link will stay, as will the forums that we currently have - so where's the harm....really?

How about an HTML5 sandbox? Or iOS? Or android? Just a suggestion.Honestly the whole 'sandbox' website should just be taken down.
After GMNext or your next big project, you could bring back a new Instant Play 'sandbox' system.
That is what I would personally do.

Anyhow. Please make sure the new members can easily find the games, and that there is enough moderator capacity to handle the influx of members. However with the recent additions to the moderator team I think all will go well.
About the name...if it really has to be something else than "GameMaker Community", please at least keep the "Community" part because that describes what this is - a community. Not just "a forum", but a community. So I think YoYoGames Community is the only viable name.

Just keep GMC. Unless people confuse it with General Motors cars.
I type GMC in google and get the car company, yeah.

Don't call it the YoYo Community, we'll get a load of yoyo player enthusiasts looking for clues on how to perform the latest tricks!
But to me, the "YoYoGames Community" is probably my favourite suggestion as a name change, as much as I'll miss the name Game Maker Community, these forums really are now the YYGC, as in, it is a place for people to get their point heard by the powers at YYHQ, as well as do all the community spirited stuff, and help each other out along the way.

I hope this is true. Since the arrival of the YYG forum members, I've already seen several new names posting comments in the Creations and WIP forum. Hope it continues.YYG just solved another problem with this merge :D

I agree with Mr.RPG. Let us host our games here! The sandbox is buggy and someday P4TR1CK will hack it again!
Why can't you just use dropbox or something? At least that saves them the cost of hosting the server.
