The GMC has traditionally been a place for people who like to create games, while the YYGF has been a place for games players. Now it seems only logical to us, that those making games need constant feedback from experts in playing them, while gamers gain access to new games and get to give suggestions before they are released, helping them to be the blockbusters everyone wants them to be!

this sounds good in theory, but i don't think that the two groups will resolve all the issues they might have anytime soon.
I'm pretty sure some members from group A and group B will be at each others throats for a while. ether that or they themselves transform in to "makers".

the question is will they blend?

Only if you have that attitude... I have been online for the best part of the last 24 hours and have found BOTH parties to be nice and friendly, with no major (and practically no minor) niggles between them. I'd be surprised if you can find any posts that are actually inflammatory in fact! However I have no doubt that one or two will try and stir up trouble but I do seriously doubt that it will come to anything. All it takes is a bit of patience and an open mind from all...

i have been pushing for the YoYo Games Community too... Although my personal favorite is the YoYo Games Big Happy Family Of GameMaker Developers and Good Game Players Community Forums... The YYGBHFOGDAGGPCF for short...

Can't wait for the next YYGBHFOGDAGGPCF Jam.

I've been on yoyogames for the best part of 3 years and they are nice people but might need to be tamed a bit

Don't generalise, faissialoo, each community has a few problematic members, you can't judge the entire community by that minority.
We'll get to know each other and I don't expect any real problems.

Yeah... pretty goddamn boring, isn't it?

I certainly hope not. The YYG forum members have different perspectives than the GMC members -- and that's good. So they should stir things up here. Question how/why we do things.

Not "blend".

We'll leave the gmc.yoyogames.com domain, but we will forward forum.yoyogames.com and forums.yoyogames.com to here as well.

It seems like perhaps you should create a new subdomain, say ygc.yoyogames.com, and have the other three redirect there. That way new users aren't confused as to why it's called GMC...

You might be trying to push your brand identity with the company name, but the fact remains that GameMaker is the central point of the company. People coming to the forums are much more likely to come for things related to GM than YYG. Why change the name if GMC describes the forums so much better?

At the moment it's the central point. What happens when they create a new product? Change the GameMaker name? What happens when they decide to rebuild the sandbox and make it a central part of their site again? Also, there are many game maker communities on the internet, and not all of them are about GameMaker. The name change is just a way to show that it is in fact the forums hosted by the company that makes GameMaker, not just a forum about people who make games, or a third party site about GameMaker.

Only if they make one!

So no. Automatically does not mean manually, funnily enough.

Why change the name if GMC describes the forums so much better?

Because it doesn't. These are the YoYo Games community forums. Lots of things other than GameMaker are discussed here, from gaming, marketing, or design, to education, team building and asset creation . It'll also start to discuss other aspects of the site, and we have more plans for other features going forward.

So not only doesn't "GameMaker Community" not do the forums justice, but we need newcomers to know they are at the official forums. There are lots of GameMaker forums out there, and nothing to say this isn't just another one.

As I've said before though.... it really will "just" be the banner, the web link will stay, as will the forums that we currently have - so where's the harm....really?

Hello,

YoYo Games Forum has an "Unofficial Site Q&A" sub-forum, it is meant for questions dealing with the YoYoGames site or the YoYo Games Forum:

http://forums.yoyogames.com/forums/6
http://forums.yoyoga.../6/topics/21087

Please make an "Unofficial Site Q&A" sub-forum in this GMC forum. Thanks a lot.

(To any staff of YoYo Games)

That's true. But some of those non-GM topic forums aren't exactly something to be proud of. They're full of misinformation and repetitive questions.

There are lots of GameMaker forums out there, and nothing to say this isn't just another one.

No, there are lots of "game maker" forums. But only one GameMaker forum.

So I'd prefer to keep the name, but it's not a big deal.

EDIT: As you named it, that's the best choice for a new name: YoYo Games Community Forums

Thanks for backing us dude.

I make games and don't play em (GM games I mean) so... I guess I am more on the GMC's side.

Personally, I like the YYGMC, or YoYo Game Maker Community. I guess it could also be the YYGGMC or YoYoGames Game Maker Community.

...But I refuse to start calling the GMC jam, the YYGMC jam or anything like that. It was started on the GMC, and it should bear that name.

Just keep GMC. Unless people confuse it with General Motors cars.
