Minecraft is a sandbox/survival game; it involves mining, crafting, building, surviving, adventuring, and enchanting, and is exceedingly popular. Minecraft was created by Markus "Notch" Persson from Sweden and is now being primarily developed by Jens Bergensten(AKA Jeb).

11clock, did you try building something out of the blocks instead of just hacking at them? Like a castle or a lake or a cannon?

I've tried that, but I found it to be very boring. Building isn't really my thing. I bought Minecraft because exploring a destructible world sounded like fun. I learned the hard way that Minecraft is not much of an exploration game. :P

Terraria, on the other hand, focuses more on exploration than Minecraft does, which is why I've stuck to it for much longer. My least favorite parts of the game are mining and building, but fortunately there are some things to keep mining interesting. However, despite liking this game more than Minecraft, it's starting to wear out on me. All games get old after playing them for a long time, and this game is no exception. Yes, the world is randomly generated, but all worlds have roughly the same layout and the same loot, so each playthrough feels about the same.

So Minecraft didn't have the exploration feel that I was looking for, and Terraria lacks the variety needed to keep me interested. Now my eyes are set on Starbound, what looks like will become Terraria's successor and is lead by the ex-spriter for Terraria, Tiy. What makes me interested in this game is that it's designed so that each planet you explore will be ENTIRELY different. Pretty much everything will be procedurally generated in this game and will not pick things from a list like Terraria did. It also looks like it will have a focus on exploration. From what I've seen, Starbound looks just like the sandbox game I've been looking for since my departure from Minecraft. It will most likely have the exploration aspect and variety that I want.

I'm surprised I didn't notice all of those errors when I copy-pasted the description onto here  well, anyway, they're fixed now. Also, all of the servers that were specifically requested by their owners have been added.

Starbound looks like my type of game. I'm happy that I will be for Linux because then my brother and I will be able to play with each other!
I liked Terraria a lot, but I have stuck with Minecraft since the late alpha.

Ooh, and a new Minecraft Softie Survival episode is coming soon, once I figure out how to fix my video editor. XD

There have been numerous times in the past few months where I have said to myself, "I haven't played Minecraft for a while, a 15-minute session can't hurt."

What usually happens is that three hours later, I'm still playing, and I have accomplished nothing else in that time. This continues for about a week, before I finally manage to pull myself together and get some work done. Minecraft is a serial time-waster for me, and its addictive pull is extremely strong.

Which made me wonder - just why is it so strong? After all, it's just a game. I did some research, and stumbled upon this article: http://www.overthink...-life/?page=all

As a game developer, this gives me lots of ideas and inspiration. Although, it is quite creepy how addictive it is.

icymx now lives a normal life in Melbourne, Australia, and is able to continue with his school work and game design. He has been clean for 3 months now, and shows no signs of addiction.

EDIT: I heard that Hepolite lurks here, so @Hepolite: Ice no longer melts.

Ah, nice! Anyway, that's not much of a concern right now. It seems to be that the server is attacked by a greifer. Many buildings on my island has been burned down, and loads of glowstone/ores has been stolen. Check out this image, or just go to the server yourself and see what has happened there. Roy's island has been attacked as well. Requesting a rollback to fix those issues. I have a local copy on my own computer which I can send to you if you for some unimaginable reason don't have anything to roll back to.

By the way, could you see if you can figure out who did this? I'd love to have a chat with said person. Just curious, I want to why only my place was burned down, while the others were simply attacked with an axe, by the look of it.

I think it was Sigma Omega who watched it burn. Might be relevant.

Know that when/if I do roll it back to the last backup (About a week ago), my city's gone.

However, I can give you WorldGuard protection (Hence the ice doesn't melt) when that happens.

Instead of rolling back the entire server, can't you just use WorldEdit to import parts of the backup? That way, you don't have to roll back everything.
Or you could just backup your city, then roll back everything, and add your city back in. That way might be best, because then everything will be fixed, and not only some areas. Still sucks for those who have been building a lot since your backup though...

There's one thing I can suggest, and that is disabling fire burning wood globally on the server. That way giant fires won't be a problem again. That, or you could give permission to create regions with WorldGuard and protect these regions against fire and other things.

I love how I'm one of the richest people on RC's server after playing two days.
Yokcos is doing fine as well, he has records already I believe.

He might pose a threat for me later...

Our living areas couldn't differ more.
We live on opposite directions of the spawn in completely different biomes.
:-P

Anyway, I was being busy with extinguishing forest fires during yesterday's thunderstorm. Quite frightening in a jungle... *shivers*

Started playing Hardcore. Had a pretty big scare when I fell off of my tree house and was caught by a vine one block above the ground. The fall would have killed me if I didn't get so lucky. Hardcore is really easy as long as you go to bed on time and sneak everywhere. xD

I've got almost everything I need in my tree house now. I just need a tree farm and a cobblestone generator and I'm set to live up there for life.

My first hardcore world:

1. get farther than I have ever gotten in Minecraft before
2. notice that there is a weird ledge of floating gravel in the nether and try to investigate.
3. suffocate, burn, and die.

When you die in hardcore: click the red X, restart minecraft. At worst, you lose some progress. Not much more than dying in lava in survival.
