I feel this fits in with "distributing games" as getting an age rating is part of final distribution.

Anyway does anyone know what happened to TIGRS? ( http://www.tigrs.org ). The message I get when I go there reads:

Visitors, we are sorry, however, this site is experiencing difficulties at this time. Please return later.

And it's been like that for well over a month. It's kind of disappointing as it had built up quite a decent reputation and gave us a common, recognisable rating system to use.

Anyone know if they're coming back or if this is some kind of permanent shut down?

That's odd. I'd say, legal trouble?

I suspect something more along the lines of not-paying-the-bills trouble, since the guy behind it has been drifting away from the indie world for some time now, and ALL his websites return that error at the moment. You could try using some of his other contact methods from here:

Hmmm Ok I'll have a look. Will be disappointing if he doesn't continue it. Maybe there'll be a gap for someone new to come along with a similar idea *glances at anyone with more free time than myself*

That sucks - I kind of liked it.

I certainly don't have time to start up a rating system.

Well I've just been procrastinating all morning and came up with these: ( Hello ).

TIGRS was/is well known though. Still hoping for some news on that front...

Perhaps a new rating system is in order.
I shall attempt to create one.

I kind of like those actually... :D Stylish.

But TIGRS provides more info like "violence, language" and what not.

The content descriptors?
Anyways, I had the actual files on my computer, but I can't find them since my website switched to the 'Easy' way. That unfortunately linked to tigrs.org.
Seriously, I think the guy died or something.

It still exists on Game Jolt, but of course you'd lose some credibility with the main site being gone.

If you really want to use it still I suggest going over to game jolt and setting it up on a game (it doesn't even need to be publicly released yet, you can keep the game private), then just copy it over wherever. The TIGRS site essentially did the same thing, without hosting any data on the game. It just let you copy the image and reasons for the rating, which you select yourself.

You can still read the sites content via http://web.archive.o.../www.tigrs.org/

It would be a real shame for TIGRS to disappear, does anyone know how to contact the founder?

Also slightly related, UK PEGI ratings law, does this cover digital distribution?

The sites content? The archive never recorded the actual files... >.<
