After the Seven Heroes defeated Zeic with the Seven Swords, peace prevailed throughout the continent of Tenebrae. The Swords were placed in different regions of the world, sealed away for safety. The Heroes went their separate ways and continued about their own lives. This time of peace continued for ten long years until finally, one villain's actions changed everything. It was reported on all major news networks that a thief had managed to steal one of the Seven Swords, the Sword of Unity. The next day, that thief vanished off the face of the earth without a trace. The same happened with a second Sword, and then a third. The police got smart after that, and are now heavily guarding the four remaining Swords. No one knows who stole these artifacts, but police warn that they are very powerful and to take extreme caution if you happen to see one of the thieves. They are also offering a large reward to anyone who finds the thief or thieves.

This is a sequel to the successful forum game The Ruler of Darkness. This forum game takes place completely through PMs. I send you a message saying what happens, and you respond with what you do about it. Then I tell you the result of your actions and so on. Do not discuss specific story elements in this thread. (For instance, you can say "Why would someone steal a bunch of swords?" since everyone knows that that happened, but you can't say "Who is this Typhoon guy who keeps getting in my way? If he's a player, he better stop.") The reason for this secrecy is so that you will not know who to trust and who not to, and you will be forced to use your own judgment in the situation.

If you would like to join, make up a character and PM me his or her name, basic appearance, and abilities or skills. Optionally, you can post in this thread saying that you join. Do not post character information in this thread (again, for secrecy). Also, you may not use your user name as your character's name.

This game, like the original Ruler of Darkness, will take place primarily on the continent of Tenebrae. Here is a map of the continent and the major cities in it:

FAQs
What if I wasn't in the first Ruler of Darkness?
Not a problem! This game is a continuation of the first Ruler of Darkness, but it contains all new characters and all new plot elements. You'll be able to catch on quickly.
How often is this game updated?
My goal is once every 48 hours. However, life happens. On some days, I will be unavailable. And I will not update if a lot of people have not responded to the previous update yet.
I'm going on vacation! Can I quit and come back?
Yes, just try to let me know so that I can mark you as temporarily inactive. If you're around other players, I'll choose actions for you, and if you're not, you'll be frozen in statis until you return.
I was in the first Ruler of Darkness. Can I play as the same character?
No. Everyone has to create a new character here. Now that I've released the information about each player from the first one, everyone knows who your first character was, so you need to make a new one that no one knows about.
The game has started. Can I still join?
Always. The Ruler of Darkness is always accepting and welcoming new players.
Can I throw the can into this topic?
No. Due to the nature of this game, I am hereby placing a can shield on RoD2.

Prologue

As everyone adjusts to their surroundings on the continent of Tenebrae, many people are bombarded with requests, some sinister, some benign. Others are overhearing conversations that they shouldn't be hearing. As the adventure begins, everyone has their own goal. Some want power, and some want justice, but everyone wants one thing, and that is the Seven Swords.

Chapter 1: The Three Divine Crystals

As our story continues, everyone either wants to steal or restore the Seven Swords. What's this about Crystals though? It seems as though the Seven Swords aren't the only artifacts of power anymore. Three Crystals hold divine power beyond that of even the Seven Swords. But where are these Crystals? And how does one unleash their power?

Chapter 2: Greed

Everyone has their eye on the Seven Swords and the Three Crystals. Is anyone truly deserving of these powerful artifacts, though? No one knows, but no one cares. They all just want them for their own reasons. As the fight for power continues, some will thrive and find success in their quest for power, while others will find only death and despair.

Chapter 3: Guardians

It seems that the Three Crystals not only have their own power, but they also boost the power of any of the Seven Swords near them. Additionally, three of the Seven Swords are protected within a temple that can only be penetrated using the power of the Three Crystals. In order for someone to collect and truly master the power of the Seven Swords, one must also have the Three Crystals of Earth, Sky, and Ocean.

Chapter 4: The Beginning of Peril

The Dark Lord has collected over half of the Seven Swords and the Three Crystals. The heroes must hurry to retrieve the other Swords before all hope is lost. Additionally, it seems that the third Crystal, the Crystal of the Ocean, is bound by a special magic. The gates to the Temple of the Ocean will only open to someone who has both great power and true worth. The heroes will need the Swords in order to provide the power necessary to open the gate. But are any of them truly worthy? Do they have the worth to open the gate in addition to the power? Only time will tell as this tale continues.

EDIT: According to my log, you haven't replied to my update. Would you like me to resent it? I suspect one of our PMs just didn't go through on YYGF (another thing that we won't have to worry about here :D).

@All current participants: Make sure you have your personal messenger enabled, as that's how I'll be communicating the updates. To verify that it's enabled, mouse over your name at the top of the page and click My Settings. Then click Notification Options on the left and make sure that the "Disable my personal messenger" box is cleared.

Everyone who was active on YYGF has now given me his/her GMC username in order to stay in the game except for Silverton. Does anyone know if Silverton is on this site and what his username is?

EDIT: I like this Messenger system the GMC has. Now we don't have to keep quoting each other to respond to each other's messages :D
