In the older versions of Gamemaker I remember that when you created and object, you could assign it a number that showed its depth in the game. That is if another object was a lower number it would be shown in front of an object with a larger number, or something like that.

I downloaded Gamemaker 8.1 and have been tinkering around with it to make games for my kids. How do I do the same thing in this version? Thanks for any help.

The depth field still exists in Game Maker 8.1, and I believe it is where it always has been since Game Maker 4.0. It still works the same way.

Make sure to tick "Advanced mode" in the File menu.

It's below the "visible" and "solid" checkboxes, and above the "persistent" checkbox on the object information window. If you don't see it, enable Advanced Mode.

Here is a (slightly marked up) picture:

I have to be in 'advanced mode'. Then yep, I see it like it always was. Thanks for the replies and the help.

I think in step event you just need to use the block assign variable and type there depth=-y
this is for all objects...

You are done... :)
