If by slightly you mean some negligible amount, then yes.
Although it is the thought that counts...Whatever. Good enough reason in my book.

I slap your face with a piece of broccoli. And cover you with tofu.

Sounds like the intro to a vegan skin flick.

No, it's actually the "climax".

Does this make me an... (vegan) adult movie star? Well... I suppose it can't be any worse paid than my current employment...

Did anyone read my post? I want to know what others think of it. :D

Anyway, this is basically what it said:
The sun produces a large amount of energy. The earth receives a small part of that. Then, a plant receives a part of that energy. A small part of the energy i stored. Then, an animal eats that plant, and stores a little of it. Then we eat part of that animal, and receive the small amount of energy that it has.

In short, we lose a lot of the energy from the sun to the animal. It is more efficient to simply eat vegetables then to eat meat.

Of course, I did not do any research, so I don't know how much energy we lose.

you recieve 10% of the energy of the previous beings energy. However that is still a considerably big amount of energy, since the sun gives a huge amount of energy right at the start.

Because everyone else is gulping down meat my refusal to eat it outright bring the world slightly closer to the correct average.

This is probably the vegetarian argument I less agree with. Even if you go to the supermarket, see some meat, and decide not to buy it, that will not help at all. The animal is still dead, and even if you don't buy the meat, someone else will. By not eating the meat you are not helping the world eat less meat. There has been an increasing amount of vegetarians over the past few years, but the amount of meat being consumed also continues to increase, despite the fact that there are more vegetarians

I would happily be vegetarian if i had the money. i find a small amount of meat satisfies me for longer than a large amount of vegetables. also i'm just very used to cooking meat recipes, i don't know what else to do with vegetables other than boil them and eat them. (would get boring to eat every day)

i don't think there's anything wrong with being a vegetarian. i don't hate them at all. what i do dislike though, is the people who refuse to eat meat. now that's being picky and that doesn't make much sense, survival doesn't allow you to be picky with your food. many people around the world don't get the luxury of choice. also i get a little sick hearing people complain about the killing of animals for food what else are we going to do with them? if we just let them be "free" they would over-reproduce so fast that there would be way too many to handle. Further more, killing and eating an animal is literally the way nature works, it's called the food cycle.

Don't worry. Nobody got the joke anyway. But +1 for the mental image.

Hunted down this topic, time for a bump :)

Since my earlier posts I've been studying vegetarianism/veganism a lot more. I've been trying to improve my diet a lot.

Basically I'm at a point where the only major animal products I consume are eggs and salmon. I want to replace organic/free range eggs from my diet after learning about debeaking and forced malting, but the only large, humane provider of eggs in my region is part of a food chain that doesn't let me order online. Despite the moral aspect, I really don't want to get rid of fish yet...

I'm glad that I've been able to refine my diet and I'm noticeably healthier due to it. Plus, I'm learning to cook

Well, I guess that's your choice.

I personally couldn't care less about any moral issues with eating meat as long as it tastes good.

Oh, boy, I've always wanted to hear what a forum mostly comprised of Americans thinks about eating meat and their educated opinions on it.

Keypress, I think you're too far deep in this forum to start being 'above it' somehow.

I am a pesco-vegetarian; I eat seafood, as well as eggs, milk, etc. Frankly, I fail to see how one can live without eating any animal products at all. I mean, where does protein come from, except a vast amount of beans.

^ pescetarian.

Basically everything you eat, ever. Eg. nuts, seeds, quinoa, amaranth, oats, wheat, spelt, vegetables, fruits. For very concentrated sources: soy, beans, tofu, seitan, TVP.

I still find your lack of empathy sickening

Meh.

The way I see it there are two choices: Become a vegetarian and eat food that tastes like s***, or eat meat that tastes good.

I'm more inclined to choose option 2, since even though animals are harmed in the process, it's better than eating things which taste like crap.

Taste of food is a matter of opinion. From my opinion and limited experience, animal matter does indeed taste better than vegetable matter. (Not including cake and such, because that doesn't count.) In fact, I struggle to even imagine a better taste than dead squid.
