GM for Mac supports GMK files exports from GM7 only (not GMK exported from GM8). This is because GM for Mac is version 7 of GM.
There is a third party tool called Lateral GM that can load the GM8 GMKs and *.GM81 files, then save them as earlier versions, but don't expect it to run straight away. There's always something that needs changing, and often it's hard to track down (and obviously needs fixing, such as the game crashing on launch).
If you have both Windows and Mac, and money isn't an issue, I'd suggest getting GM Studio. The Mac conversions are smoother. Not without it's bugs, but it seems to be an easier conversion. Note that you need the ability to run Windows and Mac at the same time to do this (so Windows installed on your Mac via bootcamp wont work, as you can only run one or the other. Either you need to machines or run Windows in a virtual machine from Mac OS).
