Hey'a all!
I'm planning on remaking my old game Colored Box to something more serious. Though with the same color-changing-concept. (If you don't know Colored Box it's not that hard, the player change color, and can walk through walls with the same color.) I've changed the player to an actual character instead of using a box.

^Very early screenie just to get a little feel of it.

What I need now is some story- and main feature-ideas. I'm thinking of some kind of "sneaking around and avoid being caught by guards and security cameras". But then again I'll need some kind of reason for my character to be captured and locked up.
I'm thinking of some sci-fi-features like some high-tech kinda things that make him change color as well. Not just a dot on the floor. I feel like he should be the only one able to do this. I don't really know. It's just what I've come up with so far.
So if you've read all this now, I'm sure SOMETHING came to your mind too! Please give a reply. Even if it's just "ALIENS WILL EXPLODE THE EARTH AND EAT YOUR BRAINZZ!". Haha.

EDIT: And yeah! Android.

but on a more serious note, you might set this in future, the world is ruled by a technologically advanced corporation but the rebels have made a prototype suit which allows the player to walk trough certain materials/walls. So he's sent into the corporation to steal/destroy some new technology and do good as usual. It's not much of a story but it would explain the color changes and why player must avoid guards and security cameras, and it's also sci-fi.

Edit: As for how he changes colors, he could find some pieces of technology along the way which he uses to ''charge'' his suit and therefore change it's color and gives him ability to walk trough certain materials(it's not much again, just colored dots drawn as sprites but that's what makes all the difference). And since that technology is only available inside the corporation's labs, and only one suit has been made by the rebels, it also explains why the player is the only one with that ability.

Oooo, me gusta :D
That's reeeally nice, man! I'm happy that you made a serious note as well, haha. I find the suit-part pretty strange, though! But it's absolutely a starting point! I love the technologically corporation! :medieval:
More stories and stuff are welcome by anyone!

I'd like it if the stuff was like paint; he'd stand in a spray of it in order to change colour, or even fall into a pool of the fluid in order to change color. Even cooler, the player could then combine colors! For example, the player encounters an orange wall. He runs through a pool of red, then jumps into a pool of yellow fluid, and then the player can run through the wall. Then you can have other fluids that reset the players color (for example, the player could have to get to a door on the far side of a red wall which is on the far side of a pool of fluid remover which is on the far side of a pool of red fluid. The challenge is getting across the pool of fluid remover!). And the player could manipulate pipes and valves to change where the fluids are being released so that the player can get to the paint at a particular position. Maybe the paint could even slowly drip off the player unless he stands in another setting fluid? You could have a whole lot of devices and fluids to change up the gameplay!

As for the story, you are a master thief who steals high-tech devices and sells them on the black market. In this heist, you're stealing the PHASE (Pass tHrough A SurfacE) Device, which allows an object covered in PHASE Fluid to pass through a PHASE Panel. That's why you're dodging guards and cameras.

:o IDEA!!! What if you could cover guards in PHASE Fluid? For example, you need to get past a guard that is patrolling on a yellow floor. You spray him with yellow PHASE Fluid, he falls through the yellow PHASE Panel and dies somehow :S so then you can get past the gaurds post!).

What do you think? :)

Well that is definitely a lot of paint and fluid, hehe. I don't like the dripping-off part I think, but some clock's-ticking parts could be nice. The paint-stuff is not that sci-fi, though. A device that can transform you to another color is not a bad idea. I can like that! And the throw fluid on guards to make them fall through the floor? Haha, genius! ;) May be useful!

Your main character changing colors to fit through walls reminds me of chameleons. Maybe the agency or group was performing experiments to forge a different reptile DNA into each test subject's DNA to create a new species of enhanced human. Your character would be the one with Chameleon DNA trying to escape this harsh environment.

If you want something that ties both story and gameplay together, perhaps have boss battles that gives the main character a choice: kill the boss or "convert" the boss to his side and they both try to escape. The effects of this choice could effect how the rest of the game plays out.

As for the main character name or title (if you decide to change it), have a name based around either character, like "Camileo," or setting, like "Lizard's Nest" or "Reptile Dysfunction" (the last one was a joke  )

You don't have to use these ideas if you don't want to. Hope this helps! :)

It's not paint, though (should never have said paint; so many regrets! :o :P). And it's plenty scifi!! :P Call it PHASE Gel if you'd prefer.
Portal 2 has such fluids, and that's regarded as being a reasonably good game.

Haha, that's a nice idea. I like the DNA-manipulating-part. He could have been captured by the bad guys trying to escape by changing colors bla bla bla. Good idea.

Well, I'm not against fluid, my mind just haven't played around with the idea long enough to see it in my game, haha. I'm all ready to proceed developing the game, but I'm like.. Lost. Haha.
