Hi, I'm trying to move to a new PC and Windows7. I First tried 8.1 and running an existing game and I get an error telling me it thinks my graphics card has a problem.

D3D.CreateDevice() Error: please check that your graphics card meets the minimum requirements and that your drivers are up-to-date. If you r graphics card has little memory try switching to a lower resolution. Error: -2005530518

I tried just creating the exe as I read somewhere that running it through the editor requires more juice but it wouldn't run as a standalone either.

I thought I was upgrading as the pc I used before is an older version and everything runs fine.

I tried reducing resolution to the lowest possible but couldn't run even a tiny game with almost nothing going on.

Anyone seen this?

Didn't open a ticket yet as I thought it must be something I'm doing wrong in the setup. I also tried moving my HTML5 over and it also doesn't run when I compile for the windows. For HTML5 it works fine.

Ok I found another entry in the community that speaks to this. I have a brand new PC, just installed the latest drivers, fresh install of windows still comes back with this error. Looking at the virus angle mentioned.

Ensure that the graphics driver your card is using is from the manufacturer of the card or the PC, and not a generic Microsoft driver. Microsoft drivers will only give your card basic functionality and won't use it as its intended. Also, as the error recommends, make sure it is up to date.

Hi thanks for the reply,

I've checked the drivers and they are from NVidia and when I click update driver I am informed I have the latest. The adaptor is Nvidia NVS 4200M.

The pc is a 6420 with W7 enterprise running on it.

I don't have any reason right now to believe there is a virus.

Looking again to see if I missed something.

Ok I think I found the problem. The laptop is not using the NVidia adaptor for some reason. It's using the standard VGA Graphics adapter which doesn't seem to support the directX features .... Can't tell why or how to fix that yet. If anyone has a clue how one can affect this any advice is appreciated. That is really odd on a new pc in this day and age I would say ... :(

I've also made sure I have the latest version of DirectX

thanks

For those interested the problem was that a different Intel driver had to be installed. Once I installed the Intel HD Graphics driver, the Nvidia started working as well and Direct X started working.

I had different problems when updating to 8.1 such as not recognizing my license so I reinstalled 8.0 since most of my games are 3d anyway and 8.1 doesn't to my knowledge is focused on upgrades to 2d games. -pac1

You don't actually need to be using 3D mode in GM to have this problem come up. I had it come up on every single game till I fixed it with the intel driver and reinstall of the NVidia driver ... only after the intel driver was in. Even the very simplest game that was just a room with one object not in 3d would throw the error when trying to compile and run a game. An exe compiled on a different computer would also throw that error when run on the laptop with the problem drivers.

I get this on the computer I use for lower-end testing. If I switch to a lower resolution on that computer everything runs fine. That one runs XP. My Win7 machine has absolutely no problems.

Yeah, one of the things I tried first was to lower the resolution but I couldn't get the problem to go away until I had the Intel HD driver installed. At least in my situation on this particular laptop that seemed to be the only thing that would work and I found some articles on google about it later with similar problems reported by others. It seems to be related at least in part to the Optimus functionality in the newer laptops/graphic adapters but I didn't dig into the details.

had the same problem, it is driver related. You don't want it to say "standard vga monitor."
