EDIT: Those that tried to upgrade and got the $198 bug can now try again as this should have been fixed.

There appears to be some confusion over exactly how to upgrade your copy of GM:HTML5 to GM:Studio... So I have prepared this topic to try and guide most of you through the process. I say MOST of you because it appears that there is a bug in the system whereby some people are doing everything correctly but still being told that the upgrade will cost them $198. If you are one of those people, I offer sincere apologies and ask that you be patient as we work to rectify the bug in the upgrade system.

Now for upgrading your copy of GM:HTML5 you will need your HTML5 License. This is NOT the product key that some people are using from the "help" menu of the product itself, but rather the license key that you were e-mailed when you made the purchase. This license can also be found by going to the "My Account" section of the forum or by entering your email in the "My Licenses" section of the YoYo Games sites (this will send you an email with all your licenses within).

Once you have found your license you must go to the Studio Upgrade Page and there enter your email account and the license into the appropriate areas. Then click on the UPGRADE button which will change the window to look like this :

Note that the total is $0 dollars!!! Some people have left the "Add Another Licenses" option checked which is for buying a new version of Studio or further licenses and so think that they are being charged for their upgrade. If this is the case, simply click on the red minus sign that should be on the left to remove these options.

You should now click on the PROCEED button where you will be asked to confirm your upgrade. IF YOU SEE IT IS NOT $0 CANCEL AND WAIT UNTIL WE FIX THE BUG. This should not be the case, but if it is, please be patient and try again tomorrow. If everything is okay, you can click the okay button and a screen will show you your new license and an email with it will have been sent to you.

I hope that helps all those that aren´t sure how this works and if you have further questions, please post them here and I´ll do my best to answer them.

It should look EXACTLY like the screenshot above before you click "Proceed". If it didn't and you didn't have anything open then you have not upgraded. However, if you proceeded as normal, the license should have appeared on screen after the confirmation page... And it should also be in the "My Account" section at the top of the forums...

That appears to be the bug that some people have been complaining about. Please, cancel the operation and wait until we can get this sorted out. My sincerest apologies...

Since everyone was emailed saying the beta was over, you going to have a lot of people coming over and having that problem. Perhaps an email to everyone who owns GM HTML5 to tell them there is a problem but you are working on it, and of course its free for the basic bit.

Is the current version of GM HTML5 still up for sale? You need to remember to take it down if it is, otherwise no one will buy the GM Studio just get this instead and upgrade it to save money.

I upgraded perfectly fine, uninstalled the beta and installed the new download. Put the license in and everything was gravy. I decided to purchase the iOS module. I tried getting it to work and allow me to use the iOS export, but I couldn't. Tried to re-validate the license from the help menu but no dice. So I un-installed Studio and re-installed it. Every time I try and put the license in it says 'invalid, can not be found blah blah'.

What do?

Well... When you buy the iOS module you should have been given a new license and this license is the one you should use to validate the module. Which one are you using? The original or the new one? Another thing you can try is removing the "license.plist" file from the app data. It can be found in App Data, Local, GameMaker:Studio. This will mean that the next time you run Studio you will be prompted to input the necessary license, at which point you should input the latest license that you received when you bought the iOS module.

I deleted that when I re-installed, so it does ask me to input the license.

The email from YoYo after purchasing and the Google Checkout page both gave me the same exact key I received from upgrading from HTML5. I would assume that's where the problem is? I had the keys emailed to me... same key.

Have you checked the My Account licenses? Or requested an email with the licenses from the other link I posted?

Yes.

http://www.yoyogames.com/my_account
Shows my HTML5, GM for Windows and GameMaker: Studio BETA license keys.

requests via email
The above license keys and my GameMaker: Studio retail key... but it is the same key I received from upgrading HTML5 -> Studio.

To be more precise...here is the email.

At your request, below is a list of all the licenses associated with your email address (xxxx)
Product----------------------------------------------License key
GameMaker:Studio with HTML5, iOS,-------------------LICENSE-KEY-4
GameMaker:Studio with HTML5, iOS,-------------------LICENSE-KEY-4
GameMaker:Studio------------------------------------LICENSE-KEY-3
GameMaker for HTML5---------------------------------LICENSE-KEY-2
GameMaker for Windows-------------------------------LICENSE-KEY-1

For me it showed initially $0 then when I went to proceed $300 or something. I tried again and it said my HTMl5 license was used, so I checked yyg.com/my_account and it gave me a studio license + download link so all is good there, just the visual notification of how to proceed after the license is upgraded is incomplete

edit: actually I think it still lists my beta license key, after downloading and install it is unable to license GM:S

I did file one about 3 hours ago. Ticket #3017556. I just thought I would see if you knew anything while I waited.

Thanks for trying to help.

That happened for me too, but I didn't cancel the operation. Does that mean I just re-bought Studio!?
I mean, it showed that it costed nothing after I had entered the license key from html5, but it then showed a price when I continued. I just thought it was the price that it would normally cost or something...

Definitely uninstall the beta first, yes...

If you have (maybe not) then please file a helpdesk ticket so we can deal with it.

Okay. It's possible that you haven't but just in case... As for those that got the $198 bug, please try again as that should have been resolved.

The issue of the HTML5 key not giving you a discount should now be fixed.

NOTE: Please be careful not to post your key on line for others to see if you have issues.... someone else might end up using it.
